Anyone in IN have a suggestion for cheaper insurance?

location location location.

people forget this plays a HUGE factor in pricing.

obviously someone with the same bike in a mid-america town of 300 population isnt going to pay as much as joe schmoe with the same bike in the middle of LA, or Vegas, or NY.

Yeah, $2k a year for Progressive. The conversation went something like this....

Me: Hello
Progressive: Hi this is XXX from Progressive Insurance, how can I help you?
Me: Yes, my name is Brett and my policy # is XXXX. I would like to add a new motorcycle to my policy.
Progressive: Ok, I can help you with that, what is the year, make, model...
(Insert boring conversation here)
Progressive: Ok so full coverage on an 2009 XB12R will run you $2034 a year and that includes your safe driving discount, MSF course discount, and mutiple vehicle discount.
(Insert silence)
Progressive: Hello Brett are you there?
Me: Sorry I am having shortness of breath. $2k a year. I think I am having a heart attack. (drops phone)
Me: Um ok I am going to cancel, goodbye.

Made my next call to Geico and got a more reasonable quote of $400 a year. Now mind you I am 30, live in a low crime area. (It should be, I am a cop) Nothing on my record. Never filed a claim. Taken the MSF course and previously insured 2 bikes. Hardly a high risk group. I took it from Progressive that they did not want my business. Geico did!

I have had my 04 12s for 3 weeks and my insurance dropped $30 bucks a month today. Im only paying 600 a year for full coverage. Through Progressive.

I'mm 3 btw and have been riding for 8 years or so...Full coverage too...

Sometimes I just can't type...I guess I forgot to look at the post before sending? I meant "I'm 33 btw..."

and yeah...Location definitely makes a difference. I'm in the Pittsburgh area.

I was still trying to figure out the math on that lol. 3yrs old and have ridden for 8 rofl

Out here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean the furthest you can get from land Geico is the choice of motorcycle insurance....:D

Yeah, location is the key. We're in a pretty good neighborhood but are bordered by some of the highest crime areas in downtown Indianapolis.

yah its location, i have a ****** record and in North Dakota, for 2006 XS12 its only 270 per year for the top insurance they offered, but im pissed becasue up here you can only ride for 6-7 months so maybe that's why its cheap. When i lived in california i had to insure a 06 warrior and 06 r6, it was cheaper to get rid of them both than pay insurance, then shortly after i got my lightning and moved back to ND

I have progressive with 3 bikes, all full coverage. Yamaha FZ6, Stratoliner and a XB12ss. $1,000 for all 3. I am 49 and have been riding for 30 years. I have not had to make a claim.

I've had nothing but a positive experiences with Progressive. They do an Electra Glide and a Lightning for a little over $400 a year. Of course, I am 51 years old, married, own my own home, taken a couple of MSF courses and haven't had a traffic citation in a very long time. I feel for you younger folks, they have you by the short hairs.

I now have insurance with Safeco, Progressive wanted to jack my policy amount not only for my xb9r but also my cars and truck ,so I did a search and found Safeco, have been very happy with them.:D

I have State Farm full coverage on my 2010 Firebolt and its about $500 a year. I have the option to cancel the coverage when I am done riding for the winter so thats nice as well.

State farm is generally more friendly to motorcycle riders because they go by CC rating not style of bike. When i had my '01 gixxer 600 it was pretty cheap for liability only.

Also note that i have my house and truck coverage with them so i'm sure i got some discount as well. No claims or anything on my account also i should note.

You should check out State farm if you have them in the area!

Before we start pating ourselfs on the back for our good quotes, let me give you some facts,im 54,0 thats right 0 tickets since 92,have had valid mc endorcement since 1974.up until jan 09,had 0 accidents since 91.I tucked the front tire coming down a canyon road, bike hit nothing but the ground,no no one else involved.progressive with my good driver discount and multi bike discount witch droped it 100 dollars charged me 625.in 09 for full coverage on an 03,99,sportsters,2005 suzuki dr200,and 08 xb12scg. after paying almost 7000 dollars to to fix the buell ,my quote went to 2175. for 2010. the quote for the buell alone was about 1700.expensive 2 fix, period.

Wow this is nuts. I thought bike insurance was supposed to be cheap... I pay $750 for my 88 Mustang each year... My buell ('04 XB12R) is $148/yr. I have almost minimum coverage on both, however. Just enough so I can legally ride with a passenger.

in BC we have the dictatorship called ICBC
Insurance Corporation of British Columbia

they make a habit of screwing people over and are very popular...
especially if your a new driver, regardless if theres 2 or 4 wheels envolved

I am fortunate to have a clean driving history and am paying less then a grand for a year...

Progressive wanted about $3,000 for full coverage for my '03 9R, went with liability for $211 a year with road side. I have a total of 6 accidents, 2 being "my fault" the last one I'm fighting, also 2 speeding tickets and I'm 21

I got in an accident two years ago that progessive helped me out on, if it wasn't for the idiot agent I was working with I would've stayed without looking. But allied hooked me up after the accident with near 200 cheaper than I had before the accident. I'm 24 now riding an 07 xb12r in iowa with full coverage just under 800. Our no helmet rule gets us here.

If your looking at quotes check out allied insurance, even my agent was surprised

I cant believe some of you are paying so much for insurance on your bikes... damn.

Last year i bought a 09 xb12r, brand new from the dealer. Now mind you i was 21 at the time (now 22) and have never had any accidents or tickets (i guess im just lucky LOL) and i got a quote from geico. they quoted me at about $1200 for the year under full coverage.

Also mind you in i live in Jersey where insurance is sky-rocketed.. But next day I made another phone call to a company called KSW powersports insurance agency in my area and requested a quote. Being thaty my bike is still half on a loan i needed full coverage. My quote was $744 for one full year, fully covered and i took it immediately and paid it in one full payment. So that goes to show you that look at some non-larger companies for insurance.

Same thing goes for my truck insurance, i'm 22, truck is fully covered under insurance and i pay $1340 for the full year... through a company called 21st century who is now Farmers insurance.

it pays to keep looking sometimes.. good luck and keep getting quotes

We all need to compare apples to apples. Not many here have said weather they have liability only or full coverage and what deductibles they have. I doubt anyone paying $200 a year has comp and collision, I could be wrong but... Needless to say I pay $119 a year for liability only. Full coverage for me with Progressive was $840 a year.
