I just paid about $1200 in parts from speed of color, and next week I'm ordering the EBR exhaust and ECM. The thing is I'm convinced that there has to be an easier way to do the header job than tilting the engine or removing the swingarm. I would really appreciate any info anyone had on the subject, its just that I'm a helicopter mechanic so doing things in the easiest fashion possible is quite important to me.

just taking the frame off is probably the easiest thing and least frustrating thing to do.

guy on buell forums just did a valve adjust this way looked like a good way to get at the headers

I ordered from the SoC website. I had a little trouble initially but then I emailed them and they processed the order manually...

So I've reluctantly decided to do the engine tilt, but the thing is I only have a rear wheel stand to do this project with. Is that going to be enough? Any help is appreciated.

Is that right? Haha, pretty cool... I want this job to be as easy as it can be, but removing the swing arm or frame seems a little too much. Especially since my bike is in my bedroom, and that's where the maintenance is going to be done.

Frame off is probably the easiest way, but I'd look for somewhere else to do it instead of a bedroom. Find a buddy with a garage big enough to do the job that won't mind a few days of scattered parts. While you're in there, check the valves, regardless of the mileage.

Swingarm removal would be a close 2nd, engine tilt would be the last for me.

The only thing is that I live in upstate NY, so the snow is fast approaching. The only way to transport it is to ride it. So if I do it now it may snow before I can get it back.

My bedroom is huge, bigger than a large living room so I'm not concerned about space. If I remove the frame is it ok in a rear wheel stand?

I also would rather not disconnect any fluid lines.

Here's another question, what's the most difficult part about removing the rear header? Is it getting the header out of the space or getting to the bolts? I was looking at it from the left side and the bolts are quite visible, I think if I altered some tools I could get the bolts off without disconnecting or removing anything. Thoughts...

on the xb it was the fact that the angle was too great to get it passed the fins without taking the frame off. i havent pull my 1125 apart but im bet the same problem exists

Started the maintenance today... In about 3 hours had everything but the rear header removed, but we got the two bottom bolts off and I'm going to craft some special tools tomorrow to get them out. But did it while the bike is on its kickstand. Wanted to see if the headers could be taken off without taking the swing arm or tank out and it appears we are almost finished. Not too easy, but I have had to do worse. Thank you everyone for your info, I appreciate the help. I'll post pics a little later.

honestly engine tilt, IMO, was rather easy, via the manual. i dunno, i didnt find it difficult, and didnt take long at all roundtrip. when i replaced my rear rockeerbox gasket thats prone to seepage

Ok so here is the update. Have completely taken the old headers and exhaust system off without removing anything else. Now here is the tricky part, the EBR exhaust headers are shaped differently than the original headers and there for will not fit in without doing something else. I'm quite proud of myself at this moment because of the restrictions I'm dealing with. So my next question is if I disconnect the lower rear shock absorber from the swing arm will it(swing arm) droop as far as I'll jack the engine and frame? I'm assuming that if I do the swing arm will go vertical as long as I can lift the rest of the bike correct?

If so I will be able to thread the needle if you will with the header to put it into place...

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Also I just wanted to say that I hope I haven't offended anyone as far as to the advice they have given. The reason I'm trying to do as little maint. as possible is because of the limited resources I have, I'm quite surprised that I have acquired a jack for tomorrow. Its a bit of an experiment if you will. Again thank you everyone for your input thus far...
