Looks like it's time to resurrect this thread :)

I just did this on my '05 12S and I flat love it! I'm not sure I even want a diffrent exhaust, it's got a great low note now, thank you to the OP!

I mentioned doing this on another site an got the "what for" from a supposed expert Harley mechanic, he began by saying the buell XB has one of the most sophisticated ECM's in the world....huh?....and continued on to say that by keeping the valve open I would lose ALL of my low end torque, not only that but it would fry my exhaust valves!...WTF! Who is this guy!?

Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't squat about buells but I have been wrenching on bikes for quite awhile, I've been looking at a pic of the inner guts of the pipe and opening the exhaust valve won't allow ALL of the exhaust to escape out the short pipe some will still go full circle, it won't lose that much back pressure....atleast not enough to say it would destroy the exhaust valves when cold fuel hit them at wot.....still haven't figure out how that would happen, anyway just wanted to throw my .02 in...

Thanks for posting this beaterbaja. So far cold start seems to be real smooth, and it Idles a little higher, I guess the computer needs to adjust. At cold idle it sounds about the same, but I have not ridden it yet. Plan on checking the mileage as I commute to work everyday on a Uly. Very interesting Mod and a way to see if you want to use an other than stock exhaust or not? Thanks again and can't wait to get on the road and see how well this works?

looks interesting.. might need to try this based on all the good feedback.
call it redneck but thats some innovative engineering
good work

Just did this with my 05scg. I did it a bit differently, due to the dimensions of the servo, I just ziptied the cable end at the hole directly in front. Pulled it open just right and sounds so much better. And I only have 1 zip tie ;)

Post a pic please bug, I'm going home to do it on my 09 uly tonight and am interested in the single zip tie method. Thanks for bringing this back from the dead. My uly is way too quiet and can't afford a drummer yet.

Well, I just did this mod. My bike started right up, the check engine light came on, the bike overheated, caught on fire, exploded and burned my house down.

Ok, seriously, what a great mod! Added just enough sound to turn my bike from a sewing machine into an actual motorcycle.

I like having a quiet bike as I take long trips (with earplugs) but even on local short jaunts without plugs, loud pipes start to bug my ears even though they sound good.

This is a cool little mod. Heading out for a ride shortly to determine if there are any affects on rideability like others have noted.

Just did this last night to my 09 Ulysses XT and it made just enough of a difference to make me like the sound of the bike. I still think it's too quiet for me but this is a great temporary fix till I can afford my drummer. I do think I lost a little torque at higher speeds but then again that might be because I just got my Uly and am used to my firebolt. I definitely noticed an increase in torque at low speeds and a smoothness about it that wasn't there prior. Also it does tend to initially fire up faster. If any problems occur, I'll post em.

After a day of riding, I feel like I lost a bit of torque but not enough to bother me. I like the sound so I'll likely stick with this mod for the foreseeable future. Good stuff.

Joined this forum at about 1900 mod done by 1930! The new sound is just what the bike needs on tick over!
Cheers
