Okay. It's winter. It's wet, cold, boring. Your S.O., boss, parents, clergyman or whoever is being a pain. I got that. I'm crabby on a good day.

BUT:

We all got stuff we want to get rid of. We also all got stuff we want! We all dig saving money on stuff.

SO,

Why the F*** do you pay listing fees and final value fees to freakin' eBay to sell stuff, then post up a link to the damn auction here, instead of offering it for sale here first?

Rant mode off.

If it doesn't go here within a week or so and you need the money, I can see putting it on fleabay. Other wise, no. This is one thing I thought about on my website so I added an auctions section just like ebay but....free

Yep. That's a good point. I use craigslist along with forums first, than fleabay.

I sold all my extra parts from my XB here, also found my current bike here! :D. If you have some thing Buell related ..Buellxb is a perfect place to sell or buy!! I totally agree with Baal, offer it up here on Buell xb first.

I'm gonna throw this out there, as I recently sold on eBay.

I had a used race pipe I was going to sell, I was LOW on cash.

How much would someone pay on a buell board for it?
It was dented and dinged up. NOT in perfect shape.

Figured maybe $250-300 on the boards...( from looking at history )

But how much on eBay??
I got $440 for it on eBay, AFTER ALL FEES!! Which was great since I NEEDED the money.

For those who have ever worked with me (XB-Lights) you know I'm not a selfish person and go out of my way to help, but doesn't mean I'm loaded with cash :)

Sometimes you just need to get as much as possible and that won't happen on a board that has thousands of members devoted to that brand. ( b/c they know what it's worth and see more of those items )

I should mention, back when I wasn't broke, I've sold TONS of parts (including exhausts)
on Buell boards. But I wasn't looking for top dollar like I was recently :)

Just how it goes, so I understand if someone posts on eBay versus a buell board.
eBay brings top dollar as more people are on it versus all the Buell boards combined.
I don't care if it's Buell, yamaha, chevy, etc....
You'll almost never get full amount by selling on a dedicated brand, online board.
Just how it goes.

I have 2 modes of selling:
1) I need cash
2) I'm feeling like giving a Bueller a good deal

I go to eBay for #1, because even after fees, I'll get more $$ there. I go to the forums for #2 (hah), because everyone in the forums want to low ball you. You can list a seat for $80 shipped (and NOT say OBO), and someone will inevitably say "will you take $50 shipped?" For Pete's sake, $80 is a GREAT deal, and it costs like $25-30 for shipping and materials!

Bottom line: I know my audience in both places, and if I want to give someone a good deal, then I go tot the forums. Or I just PM them when I see a need.

Got to say the forum is a great place to advertise too, i know I have bought parts off of guys on here and gotten great deals. On the other side I have definitly looked at listings on ebay that were advretised here, that I would have otherwise missed. The beauty of the forum. All that being said I have to agree with rah7^2

rah and andy make excellent points. If you need top dollar, eBay may give you a better shot. I'm on a photography forum, and the asking prices there are way lower than I'm seeing the same pieces going for on eBay. BUT, if the asking price is good, things seem to move pretty quick on forums.

So, I can't fault you in the slightest for selling stuff on eBay, for whatever the reason is. It does seem a little ...something... to not offer it here, but then to link up the auction though. Look at it this way: Let's say either you're thrifty or you're short on green. Your brother or neighbor has some item that you want. He knows your situation, but doesn't offer it to you. Instead, he lists it on eBay. Think of the difference between him just quietly selling it, vs telling you about the auction. I'll admit that a family or friend situation is different, but it's food for thought.

FWIW, I know of several large forums that don't allow eBay or CL links in their classifieds at all.
