Rear cylinder base gasket

sure somebody else will chime in with preference but use JAMES or ATHENA base gaskets/gasket set if you can find them. they are readily available online. it's not a design flaw or motor problem per se but these engines need some heat in them so that all components and mating surfaces have time to equalize before you rev them hard or load the motors hard with alot of throttle. leaking base and/or head gasket usually sign of that not happening. the James gasket sets are wonderful and address this problem. i would also do the front at the same time if you haven't recently. just a thought.

OK, new James gaskets cylinder base gaskets and cylinder head gaskets have been installed. Will see how they will perform. I applied RTV silicone black on rockerbox gaskets and Hylomar Blue on rocker cover gaskets since I already know they can leak, but cylinder gaskets I installed as is.

Actually those James gaskets have very questionable quality. Probably I had to use original Buell gaskets or Cometic gaskets. I had 3 James Gaskets top engine gaskets kits, and all those black with red rubbered stripes gaskets from the kits have slightly inaccurate geometry.

As you can see the red ribber stripe on the cylinder base gasket does not match the cylinder base area. Same in on opposite side, the gasket is properly aligned though. If that red thing on the gaskets is sealer it looks like the base gasket corner may not be sealed properly. The gasket is properly aligned, but the gasket sealer line is off the cylinder base contour. Same situation is on the rockerbox base gaskets, they have inaccurate red rubber contour.

Also after first engine start I found red rubber shaves goes from the cylinder base gasket. I hope it does not mean that reg sealer bill be squeezed out and cylinder base will leak.
