roasting right thigh

You could always just wrap your leg with some header wrap lol.

This isn't just related to Buell. The Ducati forums are full of the same things. When the Pannigale came out it had a recall because riders were getting the red a$$. Literally. Most Duc's feel just as hot or hotter. My XB isn't bad at all though. Must be all the clearance under my seat and all the open space.

That's a great idea!

Just wrap your leg in some R30 insulation.
I bet you won't feel much heat after that!

My rear tail section is opened up to expose the subframe. That and the RSS might be the major contributing factors to a cooler rear cylinder.

Ceramic would be a MUCH better option over wrapping a set of headers. Find a local (reputable) company or ship it out to a good one that has a proven track record. Prep is key, no oil/grease/dust on the pipe. I do ceramic at home quite a bit and rarely does it fail. I've redone a few at home before they ever shipped out because I wasn't 100% satisfied with the results. It takes time, but the results are worth it. As a personal test, I've noticed a significant drop in felt temperatures after coating an exhaust on my own bikes. I haven't done my 1190RX simply because I haven't had time to get at it yet. My Uly will get it though, I have a new 2010 header that will get coated before it ever makes it onto the bike.

I always liked the idea of ceramic coating. From my understanding ceramic coating keeps more heat contained inside the header, therefore hotter internal temps and faster exhaust gas flow. With faster flow more heat is directed out the exhaust rather than radiating out around it which keeps the temperatures around the exterior of the pipe lower. That's just how I understand it.

I've always wondered if it would make much difference if you just did the inside of the pipe. Companies like Jet hot coat the inside and outside. Just personal preference, but I like the natural look of stainless. Seems it could be the best of both worlds with the SS exterior (visually) and ceramic coated inside (faster flow/ performance/cooler exterior? One of these days I'm going to try it and see.

How about adding insulation to the inside of the plastics. Dynamat has some self sticky stuff for the undersides of hoods. Every little bit helps and cumulatively should make a difference.

I'd thought of that, but having messed with it, I'm pretty sure that stuff would drip and make a mess.

im going to ceramic coat the exhaust and do titanium wrap on the rear header. I'll report back when I get that done. as mentioned before, if your bike is running lean, like mine was, the engine gets ridiculously hot. get that checked out.

You might be talking about the regular Dynamat? There is a high temp version meant for the underhood of a car. I've used it on many builds and never had an issue with heat, but ya never know! The point would be to put some type of insulation behind the plastic.

The heatshield on the exhaust was by far the biggest difference. I had a YFZ-450 quad and the titanium exhaust would get yellow hot sometimes and melt my boot:( a carbon fiber heat shield made a world of difference in that thing.

this is my fix and i do believe it is successful:

i also replaced the battery today. i am hoping this resolves the trip odometer issue.
