OK so I'm going to be picking up my new to me buell xb9s in the next week. I'm coming off a 6 month stretch of riding a Honda rebel and that was my first motorcycle.

What can I expect jumping on my buell for the first time (besides the test drive)? Any tips or pointers on what to expect?

The biggest two things I'm worried about is keeping my paw off the throttle till I get tused to the power band and the buell needs to be leaned much more then the rebel.

I'll be picking it up and riding about an hour home next weekend in the wonderful weathet of Pennsylvania

Thanks Dan

more power, torque, noise and looks.just ride safe xb 9s and 12s make great starter bikes they are very user friendly.its not like jumping on an I4.i have no idea what the brakes on a rebel are like so go easy on the brakes until your used to them.
congrats on the new bike

The brakes weren't bad but you weren't doing stoppies with it or anything.

I grew up on quads and dirt bikes so I'm pretty comfortable riding.... took me a week to get used to cars being around me while riding but once I got over that I was set. The new thing to get used to will be on the highway since I have never been cause the rebel wouldn't exactly keep up with traffic lol.

I'm really hoping the weather is nice so I can ride all day... all my new gear and helmet are killing me and are still in boxes from Xmas day lol

I just rode my Buell from Pa to Fl last week. Good luck with the bike (& weather).

depends if you want power while on one wheel or two....

it makes plenty of power under 3k haha its just launching it from 2500 or so is fun :)

yea the buells have tons of TQ, just take it easy for a bit and get used to the bike, you'll be just fine!!!

Care full, cause you could be breaking the speed limit before you can say speed limit. congragts, enjoy, be safe:)

Yeah I kinda figured that... my old rebel would only go 65 so this is gonna be a big step up I guess

Just don't go crazy on her. You will get used to the power quickly. Its not the fastest bike in the world, but she gets the job done well. I have owned faster bikes, but i think my xb9sx is the most ''fun'' bike i have ever owned.

It DOES have power under 3k, but one thing i'll warn you about is that all the buells (or so i've been told) have this sort of lower rpm "stutter" that they do. It's not a backfire, but kind of more a cough. Just be careful and don't pick your feet up until you're going a good 5-10mph, or you might encounter an unpleasant surprise. You may not even notice it, but i was raised on nothing but jap bikes so when i took my XB9S out for a test drive shortly before i bought it, i almost didn't even buy it. This scared me, along with the high up seating position, but the bike looked and sounded so good that i told my self that i "had to like it" and went back a week later and plopped 3200$ on my dealer salesman's desk and rode off that same day. It was in the beginning of april last year and i froze my ass off, but i had to ride it home nearly 40 miles and in those 40 miles of 30 degree temps, i learned everything i needed to learn and have not looked back since. good luck sir, you bought yourself a new [legal] mistress.

Here is a picture of my new beauty the day I went to test drive and look at her. I was really Looking for a sportster but my buddy at work recommended a buell cause of the more sporty seating position cause I complained of the wind hitting my chest. As soon as I sat on her I fell in love. The rumble the looks everything!!! Its in immaculate condition and I'll be the third owner. Its a 03 xb9s with 7500 miles and it has the buell race kit. I'm really glad I went for the buell and not a sportster.

Wtf is up with these low mileage motorcycles!?! Ride your machines people! Im at 18500 ish 10k of those are all me in the last year! Greasy plz run that number way up there

haha that's EXACTLY what i did. I sold my blast (kept my yamaha) and went into my harley dealer to test ride sportsters. The bike, same color as yours, and an '03, caught my eye. I was going to test ride it just for ***** and giggles, but when the salesman started it, i was sold. It has a D&D exhaust on it which may be horribly loud and obnoxious and make the least amount of power over all of the other exhausts available, but they sound so awesome! I do still kind of want a sportster 48, but at 21 and finishing up my last semester of college, even working full time can't pay for all those toys. I think i need to narrow my hobbies.
