So, who's an airplane guy?

I have a house full of RC Planes and Helis. I fly a UAV for a local Aerospace company and work as a sensor operator in an off shore surveilance plane. I hold a commercial pilots license as well. I guess you can say I'm into anything that flys.

10 years as an aircraft mechanic in the Navy, A&P and I just got my pilots license at the beginning of the year. I also fly Remote Control airplanes. Does all that count? :D

I've always been a fan of planes. I've never flown one but hope to eventually.

My favorites are the P51-D Mustang and the F-16 Falcon. I just love the aggressive looks of both and look like they'd be a hoot to fly.

I have flown in flight sims pretty well. But it can't be compared to real flying.

Uncle Jess was piloting "Fearless Fosdick" when it was shot down over Brenner Pass... Ended up a POW.... (WWII)

A&P mechanic here....I have been in the Aviation industry since 99'.

My first year was in G.A. Shortly after my short stint in the G.A. world I got into the airlines....been an airline guy ever since. I have worked everything from MD80's to 777's. The airlines are great, and suck ass at the same time. For instance, in my 10 years I have worked for one company that went out of business and furloughed from 2 others. HOPEFULLY, this last furlough will be the last one I have to go through. I JUST got recalled to my last employer. I will be heading up to Anchorage to work for an extremely large/brown shipping company.

Additionally, I have 17 years of military experience (all Nat. Guard time). Although, only the last 12 years were aviation related. My last 12 years have been as a KC135 crew chief. And don't laugh at us guard guys....we have busy! As a Guard crew chief or flight crew member, 2 weeks in the summer and one weekend a month is not possible. It should sound more like 2-4 months per year and 1-2 weekends per month.

Im a pilot, currently i have my private and instament. Im working on my commersial and i am planning on flying with the USAF. And theres no doubt in my mind that Bikes and airplanes go hand in hand.

Got my ticket in1976.Was in a FAA program and had a blast for years.Quit flying when I moved to Hawaii in '93'.Still go to Reno Air Races for the fastest piston racing in America. The sounds of those V12 engines is so sweet.

Here is my daily office

I was an A&P mechanic plus almost 30 years in the navy working on A1D spads (propeller)to jets and turbo-props to H-3 helicopter

I've flown quite a bit. Worked my way up through instructing, charter, etc. (Even taught basic aerobatics in a Decathalon.) Eventually landed a job at a commuter airline flying Embraer 120's (30 pas, two 1800 horse turboprops, 26,000 pounds). Have around 3500 hours and an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. Got tired of starvation wages and took an engineering job with the federal government about 15 years ago. Not a day goes by that I don't question that decision, although I'm well paid, and most people would think my non-flying aviation job quite interesting. (I certify new aircraft as meeting the rules.) Sold my last (3rd) airplane 6 years ago and quit flying cold turkey. Been trying to kick the aviation sickness through motorcycles, sailboats, etc. since then, but I'm not cured. Thinking about something like a Rans S-7 or one of the light sport Cub clones, although I'd need to sell another toy first. Sorry about the life story, but this thread touched a nerve for me.

Air show at Oceana here in Virginia Beach this weekend. Blue angels have been flying over my house all day, Ive been walking around with a hard ever since the first pass they made in formation! Great place to live!!

I finished A&P school in '03 and have been working for Erickson Aircrane ever since. A short stint in engine overhaul, over 2 years as a structural mechanic, and about 4 years as a field mechanic.

The S-64 Aircrane and the Buell S-1 are very similar, both shake themselves apart, and for every hour spent flying/riding them there's an hour of maintaining them.

So I graduate from ODU next semester and am planning on trying to fly for the Navy.
I think im fairly familiar with the requirements but it never hurts to have more input.
I plan on going to OCS after college and then directly to flight school.
I need to go talk to a recruiter but am somewhat hesitant just b/c of stories of misinformation on their behalf. I don't plan on signing anything until March or April but I know i need to get all the facts.
Has anyone out there followed this same course
Or have any advice in general for me.
I'd appreciate any info you guys have got.
Thanks, Jon
