Alright so I got asked why I was running racing slicks on the road today... Im not running slicks.. moral of the story: I need new tires lol

So after doing a tad bit of reading and looking up prices, a new set of shinko verge's have caught my attention for $195 which is moderately affordable for an unemployed college kid [up]

I've read some good things about the verge's and despite being labeled as a sport touring tire most things I've read have placed it more on the sport side of the spectrum. Which is a good thing because My riding style is what some would consider aggressive, some rambunctious, and others reckless. As far as I see it I'm just getting what I payed for out of my bike lol.

But anyways, despite the good things I've read I've also heard some bad things about shinkos rubber? Apparently they had some sort of peeling issue or whatnot. Not entirely sure about that. I'm more interested in the specific performance of the verge than shinko's in general. I've ran shinko's before and had no complaints. But before I pulled the trigger on these rubbers I figured id post somethin up and see what you wonderful ladies had to say about them :D

I bought michelin pilot power 2ct last summer.. IM not a pro, but I had some wacky weird wear on my previous tires from the previous owner and I immediately noticed the difference when I put on the michelins.. loved it

Don't, I repeat DON'T buy the shinkos, if there is one place on your bike you should never skimp on it's your tires. If you're on a budget get the Michelin pilot powers, I have the 2ct and I absolutely love them. As far as the shinkos I have read nothing but bad reviews about them on here.

Isnt cyclegear doing the 199$ deal on dunlop q2s right now. Get that cheap ass. Jk im running bridgestone BO16 and i hate them but they will be destroyed by spring cause they suck balls. Then going back to pirellis angel st beat tire ive ever run

On the recommendation of a friend I ran shinko beefed on my xb9. 4000 miles later I was happy to upgrade to the pilots. For the price I actually paid the same for both tires. The shinkos were great for the first couple of hundred miles. Then they developed flats. I live in bluff country in mn, there are a lot of windy roads. But there is a lot of flat straights too, I have 4000 miles on the pilot 2s and have been very happy. Now my cr has the angels on it and I can't wait to see how those perform. So after all that my opinion would be stay away from the shinkos. I have heard they are good, but my experience with them I would stay away.

IDK but thats a good price on those. They are typically ~230 a set. Very good tire too, but will only last about 5k miles.

I have the Shinko Verge tires. I just bought them last summer and only have about 2k miles on them but I'm super happy with them so they gets two thumbs up from me.

Here's the post from last summer w/ some pics

Shinko Verge tires

My 2c: Anything, even that 195$, pair will be safer for general street riding than the improvised slicks you're currently running. Good luck.

ContiMotions are a nice budget tire. Not as sporty as the Michelin Pilot range, but if $ is your biggest deciding factor they are a quality tire that gets good reviews relative to its price range.

Just checked on the q2's and theyre sold out [down]:(

lol and yes I am not afraid to admit I am a wee bit on the cheap side :D

But like nikfleisch said, you dont want to skimp on tires. At 60mph the only surface area on your tire actually in contact with the ground is roughly the size of a quarter. Fun fact of the day [smirk]

But honestly my improv race slicks im running are shinkos? I cant think of the specific tire they are off the top of my head but i had no complaints with them. Lasted me a solid 4,000 miles anyways.

I just put michelin pilots on my bike and they are great. I'd pick a sticky tire every time. I don't care if it wears faster, I'd rather not go down. My buddy hooked me up and I got a great price but even so I don't think they are unreasonably priced.

Another option for you(on a budget) is tomahawk tire co. They are retreads(don't fear). I used them pretty much exclusively before getting these michelins and never had a problem. I got 5000 miles out of every set and they are a sticky tire. IIRC they were like $175 for the pair. Don't let the word "retread" scare you away. Retreads are tested to a higher standard than "new" tires, so theoretically they are actually safer. The company is owned by Desser Tire Co, who make retreads for jet air liners. I figure if a jet weighing a gazillion tons is safe on retreads so is my bike.

Your logic is impeccable lol

I just checked out the site, they didnt have very much info on them and reviews seem to be a love/hate relationship. But for the price they sound fantastic. and like you said they are held to a higher testing standard being retreads and all. I just might be cool and pick me up a set of blue ones [cool] LMAO

Yeah the bad part of the company is they have only so many sizes. Other than that they are just as good as any other tire. The only reason I got these michelins is because my buddy got me a hell of a price and I figured I'd try something else. I can't remember if they made the size to fit the buell...

The colored ones are pretty damn cool IMO :)

Pilot Road 3's they are sport touring also, but I love them. I wont run anything but Pilot Road's on the street. Great grip and mileage

^^^ this was not the site I was on, I was on the actual Desser site. Much more info here, thanks [up]

And btw Thaloc you just got an accidental rep point from me. Still counts lmao :p
