Welcome to the Forum! When posting let us know the Year and Model of your Bike. The Clutch and Throttle take some time to get used to. The Older Style of Clutch is not Fluid Driven, it is more of a Less trouble but Manually driven Clutch. It is still a wet Drive System but no need for Brake fluid or Hyd/Clutch system. Therefore the Clutch Grabs differently on a Basic/ Stock Bike. This will make the bike lurch due to the low end is a low lugging and can surge the Engine till you learn the Throttle. Most think just gun the Throttle but not SO! the Gentle Parking lot Retraining of how to use the Throttle and Feather the Clutch will help.
Dumping on the Clutch will just make the front end come right up.
You canot [compair] the Buell to ANY other bike you have owned in the riding and handling areas.
You Tube is full of Videos Also [Daves DIY videos all in one thread]- here on the forum will help you with maintenance of your bike. YOU can read up on these areas and patience is key for learning.
Make sure to use the Good Oils so you can Ride for years with Less problems. AmsOil 20/50 in both the Engine and Transmission does a great job of Keeping the Buell up on two wheels.
There are manuals top or bottom of the page here on the forum free to use or download if you like.
Some areas even if the manual is not the same Year will be able to help you with some areas of working on your bike.
When changing your fluids just snug thoase Drain plugs or you will stripc out the Theads.
Well, now you can try a Breather Reroute it is here on the Forum, It will sometimes help and sometimes it won't. So watch the Videos there are many so make sure to watch a few before you do the job.
I don't know the Mods you have had or may have been done when the bike was purchased. The Lugging most Buellers complain of is from the lower end of the Engine and the Bike actually hates the Slower Idling. The Buell is a Bike like no other, Especially the XB model line of bikes.
You will need to practice a lot to master the faster turning Ability of the Buell, once I got the hang of my Buell I was amazeed how it responded to parking lot Cornering. Take your TIME with that or you will Low Side the bike and that is costly!
Your Buell is Still a pushrod Engine. Most bikes nowdays are OHV(over head valves) and You can Feather the Buells Clutch Lever and with Practice can master the Low end Stumbling. If you are willing to learn how to use the ECMSPY program you can individually Tune the ECM and make it a lot better Smoother. The Fuel Maps and the Eprom in the ECM can be changed to make a whole different Ride. ECMSPY is a great way to learn how to Tune the ECM for what you want.
The Spy Program takes some time to master so it is a powerfull tool and comes with a Diagnostics program as well.Check out Xoptiinside .com for getting a cable and the Drivers for working on the Bike. There are TWO EcmSpy Programs so make sure NOT to use the Older Ecmspys' Version with a newer Bike like the 2008 Through 2010 bikes. There is a Newer Version for that.!
Make sure to Learn the Programs Software properly cause if you go to messing around with it and don't watch out it can Brick(Fowl up )the ECM and you will have tp purchase a new ECM and start over.
There is plenty of help here on the Forum, so watch the Videos either on YouTube or some of them here on the forum.
Make sure to post up the Tuniversity here on the Forum so you can learn how to properly Tune the ECM.IF that is not your Deal on Individually Tuning your ECM for better performance you can go To Erik Buell Racing .com and check out the Site for other options for a Preprogrammed ECM.
I believe with some [LOTS] practice Safety First, you can get the hang of riding the TorQue monster, the Clutch may need adjusting or you can train for a while with the clutch lever and fuel(Throttle)Small moves till you get it better.
Remember the Crankshaft is Completely Different than a Foreign Bikes so patience is Key to Relearning the Method of the Buell. Gently Use the Clutch and Small Throttle moves till you get the Hang of it. Good luck.*Jimi
