but from the reviews I've read and watched, they are saying the SX offers a shorter rake and is considerably more nimble on the street than the RX. Also, the gearing is supposed to be MUCH more practical for commuting and street use, and the seating position is more street friendly.

This is not the case, I would like to see a review that makes these claims. The SX is the RX with upright bars, less fairings and slight differences to the internals of the suspension. Besides that gearings performance is the same, the 2014 models I believe are all the same suspension including.
 
I don't foresee EBR bringing out a smaller cc/detuned bike until after the introduction of the AX at a minimum.

I don't foresee a smaller EBR until WSB creates a smaller class that Erik wants to race in.

The current EBR lineup is focused less on market demand & more on satisfying WSB's minimum production requirements to race!

Initially yes. To get on their feet EBR has been working towards what they have done for years, racing. But Erik said it himself in multiple interviews, EBR is not JUST a racing company. They are looking to expand far beyond that very limited niche. Super bike sales have been steadily declining over the years and the market is shifting to different areas and the people at EBR are well aware of that.

In the next few years look for EBR to maintain their racing pedigree but emphasize other markets and expand their product line.

As for the OP. Do yourself a favor and don't make a decision until you ride the SX. Don't hold it too close to the RX. Very similar machines but with completely different attitudes.

Fwiw, I personally prefer the styling of the monster but to me the EBR has a certain aesthetic appeal to it unlike most things on the market.
 
I actually prefer the styling of the Streetfighter over the Monster, however the price of both is still quite a bit too high for me.

Perhaps not just a racing company, but as the name 'Erik Buell Racing' indicates, it's primarily a racing company. If you're familiar with WSB homologation rules, you'll know that EBR is committed to produce thousands of more 1190s over the next few years if they want to stay in the game.

I predict the 1190 will remain their focus for at least the next several years.

I'm heading out to Supermoto Italia this weekend to see if they have one in stock and maybe get a test ride.

they let me have it for several hours to ride, could have had it for the day and return it before close of business.
great ride, took a bit to getting use to the turn signal switch which also dubs as the mode selection button. lots of power, fast, comfortable, kinda acts the same as the Buell in the lower gears (1&2). service intervals were as mentioned before, valves at 18k and oil/filter at 9300 miles. maintenance plan cost 2500 for two years, basically covering the 24 month warranty period which you have to do the first three services to comply with the warranty. each service will run 1400 bucks...ouch!

took a look at the FZ-09 afterwards...
 
That's cool you got to take it out for a while. I don't understand the $2500 maintiance warranty? All you should have to do is have the first service, basically oil change at 600 miles and check chain and stuff. That cost me 180 bucks at dealer. Next service should be just another oil change at whatever mileage they suggest. Then the valve check at 18k. The valve checks/adj are expensive. 8-1400 sounds about right depending on dealer.



The turn signal takes some time to get used to. I'm guessing you were trying to turn off the signal and scrolling through power modes and DTC settings lol.
 
That maintenance cost is quite large IMO...then again I have no idea what's involved with the duc's valve check and adjustment.
 
Trading in a Buell anywhere will pretty much net you zilch...it's not worth it at all. The money you'd get for it you may as well just keep it as a second bike and then wait on a private sale.
 
How do you guys feel about the Triumph Speed Triple? Seems like a better option than the Ducati.
 
i was talking to an EBR dealer and he mentioned that they are expecting a $2000 rebate coming on the SX just like they did on the RX... which would bring it down to $14,995

I road both the RX and SX back to back..... although both bikes felt the same in handling and gearing, i just didnt enjoy the seating position on the RX. I sold my R1 to get away from that and love the upright riding position of my buell and the SX... The SX was so comfortable and i really enjoyed riding it. Love everything about it except the exhaust, both the underneath one and the secondary.... hope to see some aftermarket underneath exhausts on these bikes....
