Lost an Uncle to a Drunk Driver, guy had a clear record, not even a point. He was 35yrs old at the time, he ended up spending 3yrs in prison, sentenced to 5-7yrs.
I hate the guy to the bones, but he made a mistake, was he justified Hell No, did he get enough jail time, Nope. Did he learn, I hope so since he lost his job, wife divorced him and he lost custody of his kids since he was in jail. He may have not died in the wreck as did my Uncle but his life is/was **** from what he did.
I dont Drink so I will never have to worry about Drinking and Driving but in MI you can get a ticket for DUI if your sleepy, I have driven sleepy before and hated the hell out of it. I would hate to think my life could be basically to an end for one mistake.
I have a buddy who got 2 DUIs within 3 months, lost his license and has yet to get it back close to 4yrs later now. He isnt bitter he knows he messed up but he hasnt dank one drop of alcohol since the second DUI, he never hurt anyone.
People make mistakes it is simple and unless it is an intentional I dont feel it should ever warrant a life sentence (not talking about Rape, Murder, or things like that).
