I have a 2003 Buell XB9S.

I don't know if that's the word for it or if there are a million causes that can make that sound, but whenever I try to accelerate hard or go from a stop I hear something as if you take the can opener on a soda can and put it inside and shake it.

Also, sometimes I hear like a fast hollow thump sound when I'm on the highway and I accelerate it. I imagine that's the pistons but I think it doesn't sound right.

I don't have a video or recording of the sound.

Can anybody tell what can cause this and how bad this is?[sad]

Transmission output shaft bearing. Mine did essentially the same thing, I couldn't tell where the ringing sound was coming from at first. Thought it might be the idler pulley bearings at first, found out later it was the transmission bearing instead.

I have the stock exhaust.

Thanks d Adams. I'll have the mechanic look into that next time I take it to him.

I don't have the tools or knowledge on how to fix that myself.

Also, I've also thought about te possibility of something becoming loose in the muffler like you guys said. But what do I know ?

I'll post updates in the future.
