Update!! 200mm back tire Review.

I personally rate Shinkos at around a 1.5-2 for the fact they hold air.

I have ran them twice on my last 2 GSXRs. Both were remove quickly due to traction issues and poor handling. A good friend of mine bought a FZR1000 recently with Stinkos on it. I warned him and before he could swap them out, he hit the ground.

I would not suggest them for someone looking to have fun in the twisties. For straight line fun or commuting, why not.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, wow!!! I have been known to ride a bit aggressive so I better just get a Pirelli to match the rear... I hope the Diablos rate a bit better:D

Giday to every one out there im new two forum, the wide tyre i thought would need more input to place bike where you want to in fast corners. looks great tho. and the other thing you have to wonder is that tyre as relaible as it would be on the 6" rim does any one know for sure?wouldnt want a hi speed deflate.:Kiwi

I was really enjoying the wide tire look on all the bike pics posted in this thread, so when it came time, i swapped up to a 200.

For about the first 2 weeks i didn't really notice a different, but this weekend i went on my first group ride with the 200. These guys are a touch aggressive and you have to hustle to keep up. I learned very quickly that the 200 is fun to look at, commute, and putter around town with. But after scaring myself several times, i have decided to swap back. I'm not even going to wait for it to wear out, just gonna pull it off when i get paid again.

To ME, this is what it felt like:

with the 180, everything was predictable and linear while corning. But with the 200, it was more like everything is nice and predictable, UNTIL you lean past the flat of the tire. Then the bike would turn in so fast that i found myself over the double yellow lines more than once, scrambling to slow down and get back into my lane before someone rounded the corner and flattened me. Soooo back to a 180 i go as i couldn't ever get the feel for that 200

Never ran a 200 tire on a sport bike, but what he is describing sure makes sense. The rounded provile of a 180 tire doesn't exist on a 200 tire so that turn in (falling over) isn't as gradual and is much, much more quick.

I do get the fall in on the 200mm as well but with a fee thousand miles on it I have learned what it will do, the only area I still have issues is sandy roads which in MI is quite a but, but I am not to sure any bike tire would handle any better in the sand.

Plus in MI the roads are almost always cold so you never really get a good hot road to stick the tire to.

I went with the Shinko Stealth front and rear.. 200 on the rear.. I have the Ultra soft stealths..I freakn love them..In the twisties or the wet roads..
good tire, just my opinion;)

i dont run the shinkos on my buell. i no this is a buell fourm but i run shinkos on my 750 katana suzuki and they stick to road very good and to me they handel well in the rain. im running a 190 pilot power on my buell xb12r and i love the handeling from that tire.

I guess this could be a good thread to upload this in instead of starting a new one.
Went out to my bike the other morn and had a flat. There was a chuck of metal in the tire I must have hit the day before. Put some air in it and rode it to the shop right down the street and they pulled out an effing car key! All they had in stock was the Shinko raven 009. They had a 200/50 R17...so I said sure throw it on! Looks fat and square, I really liked my almost brand new Roadsmart, but it was toast so I went out and scrubbed this Shinko in this morning. Seems fine, can't hit the very edges though because it does have such a seep edge from the square shape. I guess I'll get there though. See pics...btw you don't think someone can jab a key through a tire? I def hit that right? if not I'm gong to go around and see which car on my street that key fits!... sorry I guess I'm just pissed about losing an almost brand new tire. I'll post back on how this 200 feels when I go riding w/ friends.

Got to ride my bike a little finally today. With a new set of shinkos I have noticed a big speed wobble in 3rd gear that wasn't there before. Has anyone else felt this with shinkos or any other 200 rear? I have checked.
Wheel bearings are new
Spacers are tight
Axels tight
Axle lock bolts tight
Loosened up all bolts in fork mounts and clamps and re torqued
Tire pressure
Re adjusted suspension

The only thing different to the motor is an open air box (if the tire was pulling off but it didn't really feel like it)

Feels very loose up front and the bars kick back and forth I would say medium tank slapper. Very noticeable but goes away if u keep the throttle on

got some wobbles at first, but after wear and broken in they are fine now, the worst part is due to the front tire design of the center groove, it likes to track the rain grooves on the freeway, and going to replace the rear this weekend, put just over 12k on the set and the front still has plenty of meat left, the rear is at the wear markers...I commute daily, so it's mainly flat surface riding...running the 180/55's $104.88, free shipping from Chaparral

Good to know I did notice the one center line in the tread that stuck out. Ill wear these in a bit and see if it goes away.

Yeah I always do a couple little burn outs with a new back tire to get rid of the funny spots the tire rack leaves. Not much just leveling everything out

thrstmech was right
I got a chance to put 300 miles on dora today and as soon as the one little line in the middle of the tire wore off the wobble stopped. So note to all who buy the shinko front tire you may get a wobble for the first couple hundred miles.

what i find interesting here, is that my 240 conversion on oompah with the right size rim handles better than my mates 200 on a standard rim. the profile on mine is more round. much happier i went the full measure. happier though to really push on akasha and her 180.
