Just found this thread, very helpful. I changed to 200 about 4 months ago. I am just staring to ride track days etc and im not falling behind.... as for the previous queries on tyre flatness or squareness, mine is a 200/55/17 and looks really round.

Can someone tell me how to upload a pic please.

I'm really surprised your 200/55 isn't rubbing your swingarm, thats a TALL tire. Some guys have 190/55 rubbing (center, not the sides obviously).

~Mike....

Its tyres in Australia!
Thanks mike, i will post some pics of the clearance. There is not alot but enough...

From my understanding the main handling effect that a larger tire is you have a much steeper drop in. You know, that little freefall feeling you get when you round the edge of the tire. I dont think a 200mm tire would effect much on the street unless you ride alot of tight technical roads. You need a smaller tire for better flickability and corner transitions.

I run a 190 and love it.

I agree Thaloc, the 200 justs needs a bit more muscle to get flick it over between twisties. When it comes time to replce this one i will probably go back to a 190.

so now that you've had the tires for over a year hows the tread looking? Any problems with rapid tread depletion?

Out of all my tires I have gotten the most miles on my 200mm but the shinko I am running is a harder compound than my prior tires.

Would be very interested to see if anyone gets to the edge of the 200mm tyres, from all the photos it looks like it's an extra expense for the extra 20mm that no one uses.

Had a good ride on the weekend and as much as i tried i just cant get it to the edge....... at least i know im safe for a bit more.....those pics above i posted were when they were brand new, i only have about 10mm to go now and fing this dunlop pretty sticky.

I don't think you will get to the edge fitting the 200 mm tyre, if you think what would happen if you mounted the front tyre to the rear rim it would have a very flat profile. Therefore if you fit a tyre that is wider than the recommended rim it will mean that the edges of the tyre will be more vertical and you won't be able to lean the bike over enough to use it all. This means that you will always have chicken strips.
What do you think.

???? My 200mm is anything but tall, you can see in the pics in the prior pages that a 200 is still rounded not peaked.

I got to the edge of my 200mm here is a pic. :D ok nothing to brag about since this after a crash, but you can still lean pretty good on them.

Still, thats a very flat 200 compared to mine, i think the difference is mines a 200/55 where your one looks to be a 200/50 ?????

not one bit, even at high speeds i havent seen any rub mark on swing arm. Very very tight fit though as per pics above.

Nope mine is a 55 but I have an Ss swing arm, so it might give a different appearance since there is more space in front of the tire?

Here is another shot before I swapped swing arms, guess it does look a bit flatter than yours???
