I have a weird issue with my 05 xb12. Whenever I go to start the bike the instrument panel lights go out and the bike won't start. I have checked the load on the battery and all the fuses and relays are good. I suspect I'm shorting to ground somewhere but thought I would ask if anyone else has experienced this before I have to chase it down through all the wiring. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A quick easy way to check for a short:

- Pull the negative terminal cable off of the battery.
- Set a multimeter to mA.
- Attach the neg. cable to one lead and touch the neg. terminal on the battery itself.
- If it reads 0, you don't have a short.
I'm curious, how'd you check the battery under Load? Also, if you find you have no short, and your sure the Battery is good, go ahead and pull your Frame ground and Batt. terminals off, and scrub contact surfaces with coarse Scotchbrite.

i just dealt with a bad plug behind my windscreen on my xb9, you can maybe check into that? and try replacing the ign and instrument fuse anyways... i have had fuses go bad without actually flowing the element before

The really strange thing about it is, if it's the first attempt of the day starting the bike, you turn the key and the instrument panel lights up, you flip the kill switch and the fuel pump primes (But very slow) but as soon as you hit the start button you get one loud stater click then all the instrument lights shut off and stay off no matter what you do. You have to wait usually till the next day to do this again.

Not trying to insult anyone's intelligence, but just make sure the battery terminals are super tight. I had the same problem before. Or maybe your battery just needs to be replaced...
