Hi,

I note from my handbook that Harley Engine Oil HD 360 SAE 20/50 should be used in my 12 but to buy this from my dealer cost mega £'s as they tell me it is only available in 1 litre bottles. Hard to beleive I know.

It also says you can use Diesel 20/50 oil in an emergency!!

What other brand would you experts recommend which is available from an auto store and a better price? Synthetic or Semi Synthetic?

The other query is that do you check the oil level while the machine is on its sidestand or while the bike is vertical as if riding?

Cheers.

I've got an '06 XB12S as well. Though I'm not an expert, I'm very satisfied with Royal Purple 20W50 in both "holes". Also highly recommend you run full synthetic "whatever" with the high engine temps our bikes have.

When checking Engine oil level, engine should be at normal operating temperature (take short ride), on level ground, and on the sidestand.

Edit: When you're checking the Primary (Trans) fluid level is when the bike should be vertical.

Thanks guys. Very interesting to read.

Anyone tried Torco V Series 20/50 which I understand is for Harleys & synthetic.
