it makes up ten times in better traction and handling Just sayin

you forgot to add "in the dirt". gone are the days of american muscle not being about to round a corner. especially this one.

anywhere other than dirt or snow the new mustang will KILL the WRX. There I said it:D. You are looking at comparing 265-305hp to 412hp with only a 350 pound weight gain. Read any review or drive one and you will see this new mustang can out perform anything near or below its price road or track. I am biased, but if you are looking at performance the Mustang wins. As far as which is more useful for everyday chores the WRX wins, and is still a fun car.

Dan, you are correct, stock numbers are much higher for the Mustang, no doubt. I got off topic, I was talking more about a modded WRX/STi.

BUT.....

I would love to see a mustang try and keep up with me in the corners in my WRX! Traction is key brother, and when that powerful 5.0 puts some power to his rear axle around a tight turn, good luck keepin it planted...

hey Hulk
did you watch the video in the link i posted? it beat a BMW M3 on the skidpad and figure 8 and lost on the track by less than .1 second...brother

Magazine bench racing FTL.

I've watched numerous times a faster car get beat by a slighty slower car with a better driver. Road course or track.

:)

true, driver is everything but a magazine test is nice because it was performed with the same driver to eliminate that variable.

but like others get frustrated when people dog on jap bikes for having no useable power i just think its funny that when people hear mustang they automatically think that there is no way it could possible beat something else around a corner. a hard stigma for ford to overcome but they have the product to do it now.

Agreed! But everyone thinks because a driver for a car magazine can do it they can too, and that is the problem. It is hard for the average joe to run even close to the times they provide or the experienced driver in some cases can do better than them.

That's why I believe it is purely driver in most cases.

youmadbro? :D No disrespect to you Kona, I'm not trying to argure here or make enemies.

I'm just speaking from experience thats all. I also have a complete aftermarket suspension and swaybars on my car, so I apologize, I'm comparing a modified vehicle compared to a stock one...

You guys are completely correct the Mustang beats the WRX hands down...On paper

My heart 100% says "Mustang". The sound alone is worth the price of admission. The fact that it has the all around performance to back it up makes it a force to be reckoned with. That being said, I live in Indiana so I know what a midwestern winter is and a Mustang is low on my list of cars I want to drive daily in the winter. If it were my money, the WRX would get the nod. It's still an all around great car and AWD + Snow tires = BIG fun in the snow when you want it and a lack of drama when you don't want it.

5.0 right now, the WRX STI is sweet but dated. When they come out with a lightened up DI, 400hp STI then it'll be king again. For now the mustang has more go, better dry handling and uses less gas. A stock WRX understeers pretty bad when you push it hard. Of course they can be pimped out to really carve, but stock for stock the mustang corners better on clean dry asphalt. Wet, snow, or dirt the wrx with its AWD would get the nod from me.

Now if carrying lots of stuff or driving in snow are concerns, then the WRX is the way to go.

AWD only helps when traction is limited... but full throttle+high rpm+ mid corner does = spin in the mustang. Its like controlled chaos. But the mustang does make more torque at 2000 rpm than the wrx does at peak, I think I could keep up. I like both cars, but the sound of a V8 and screeching tires beats practicality in my book any day. This is like saying a civic beats a lambo because you can control it better. [cool]

I'm liking this thread :) I'm still wrx...every body and their mom has a mustang :p

I'd rather go for an SS camaro over an ft mustang :)

Yup, just did some reading. Forget about the GT and go SS :) 6 speed of course.

Ford has never been able to build motors quite like GM ::p
