WTF Battery Tender Killed My Battery

Bike is an '09 XB12Scg. Sat most of the winter but I rode it once every couple of weeks. Finally decided to use my HD battery tender. Bikes been on it for a few weeks and during the first few days it started like a champ. This morning I go to ride to work and the battery is completely dead. LIke the headlight would barely light up and the warning lights were dimly lit. I look over and the light on the tender is green as in battery is fully charged. WTF!??!?!?!

Has this happened to anyone else before? Is there something I'm missing? This battery was bought new in August by the person I bought the bike from. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
 
More info... if I disconnect the tender it blinks orange like it's supposed to when it's disconnected. If I reconnect it it goes solid orange for charging but then after a minute it goes solid green for monitor as if it's fully charge but it's dead. I took the 2 old battery out of my old XB9S and it's basically dead and I hook the tender up to it and it shows solid orange like it's charging. Guess I'll see if the tender kills this other battery too.

YES....dozens of times. a tender whether it's deltran model or any other manufacturer is not perfect and they can be "fooled" into thinking they're charging, they're floating, whatever. someone might chime in here and dazzle you with amps and watts and volts and experiences but i have seen what you're describing many many times on my bikes, shop bikes, storage bikes, etc. i've been using tenders since they first appeared in the 80's and have found that you still from time to time have to actually start the vehicle and let its charging system do its job on your battery. and i suspect what you'll find is a completely dead cell in the battery you're talking about. try and give it a heavy full charge with something like a 10 amp straight charger but suspect cell is dead and so is battery. if purchased in august it should be warrantied...or partially so.
 
Take the battery to your favorite auto parts store (Autozone, O'Reilly, etc.) and have it bench tested for free and move on from there.
 
check your connections first, specifically connection with your main harness, battery tender connection might be intact and battery might be fully charged however battery might not be connected to the system
 
Had the same thing happen to the other bike in garage it's a VFR750 tender showed it was good tried to start bike; lights low and would not start. Took battery out of bike found no acid left in battery;it is 6 years old figured it's time for new one anyway but don't think it should of been green saying it was fine. Charger is a shumacker 1.5 amp maintainer.
 
Man that sucks! I've used my battery tender for 6 years with no issues. My current battery has been in the bike since it was built in July 2008 and it is hooked to the tender all the time and cranks / runs great. I'm knocking on wood now!
 
I have two maintainers by shumacker both 1.5 amps the frist one is the square black one that one works great the other one they changed the style and not to sure of it ,will have to keep my eye on it.
