XB12 SS Lightning both lights on - HID redux

Question - I installed HID's last weekend. Low beam looks great.
The high beam bulb seems to stick to far into the reflector resulting in lots of scattered light.
There is seems to be plenty of light, it's just not focused. Has anyone seen this before??

I am using the 35W 3000K (yellow) bulbs with the Xentec slim ballasts.

I am using the 35W 3000K (yellow) bulbs with the Xentec slim ballasts.

And this is why your NOT supposed to retro fit HID bulbs into Halogen reflectors (and it's illegal). It scatters light and gives you a false sense of having better night vision and blinds on-coming traffic.

Even with me saying this though, I have a 35watt kit in my low beam. I plan on getting proper bi-xenon projectors soon though. For a bike, I think the 35 watt HID kit is just ok to use. The 55 watt kit is stupid, irresponsible and dangerous in a couple ways (accelerated reflector damage, Blinds EVERYONE around you, EXTREME False sense of having more usable light {it's way too scattered!}). I don't think anyone should ever install them in a car/truck though unless they use proper HID design buckets/projectors.

Mike, Breath brother breath... I went with 3000K's @ 35W's for all the reasons you mention. I do my homework, but did get snafu'ed by the reflector/bulb depth issue.

Now that I have the optimal "usable light w/o blinding oncoming left hand turning cagers" HID's installed, do you have any recommended solutions? New reflector source perhaps? Would these work (search ebay for bi-xenon H7)?

The ballasts "look" the same. Do I just need the reflector+bulbs?

Thanks!

I don't think anyone has successfully retrofitted a better reflector in their lightning. It would be a pointless mod though because it still isn't a projector. Now, retrofitting projectors is something that has been done, and it gives your a much better cut off line.

I was able to put the "slim" 35W ballasts behind the fly screen. Amazingly, I also have a Stebel horn (very loud) tucked in as well.
Overall, the HID install is not worth the time or money in my estimation. BuellerPilot is on the money.
The High Beam is completely useless with the HID installed.

hmmm i have a headlight indicator always on issue...

i did the 2 lights on mod last year... will check to see if the connector is damaged in any way. also i have no idea where the ground wires are connected on my 2007 Lightning XB12SS(Long)

I have my HID kit and headlight assembly taken apart. I am confused about the schematic of the wiring diagram in the first picture. I do not see these color wires anywhere. The second picture is what I have. Can anybody please explain. I have an XB12ss, thanks!

jriffe108: can you post more close-up pictures of those projectors? They're looking awesome! [up]

Hey guys, Sorry, I didn't see your questions.
I have a couple of vids on Youtube that should answer some of your questions.

Search for Buell Projectors, it's under the same name, Jriffe108.

Thanks for the write up.

I will say that the 04 xb12r firebolt wiring is slightly different. It took some trial and error and a lot of patience and I achieved the wiring mod.

So you modified it to stock wiring? The firebolt lights are both on when you have the bright on. [confused]
