So I went and started pulling my front tire off, and didn't realize the caliper's were 2 piece calipers and took the 4 bolts out and split it in half :( raw roooooo haha. So I'm wondering if there's some 0-rings or something i will need to replace that goes in between them before i reassemble it tomorrow? The old ones are still in there or the rubber by holes are still there. I know brake fluid swells seals up so am curious? Any pointers on my back tire removal before i jump to that tomorrow?

I think it will be ok, I know I have to bleed the brakes, I'm a automotive mechanic, not so much a bike mechanic but I'm learning as i go. I will get it back together tomorrow and I will double check for leaks. I would assume it should be ok to put back together. No bike shops anywhere near me :(

i agree with jesse on this one. if you were confused between the caliper assembly bolts and the caliper mounting bolts i'd seek some help reinstalling the caliper pistons and seals. they're tricky to do correctly.

I wasnt cofused on the two. I just thought the fluid and pistons were all on one side. I basically knew ot wpuld come apart in two pieces just not leak.

So does anybody know if the o-rings in the caliper are standard o-rings, seeing how brake fluid is known to eat up regular o-rings or are they special o-rings?

Ich I am asking because I wouldn't want to use a wrong type of o-ring and have one fail. I'm asking for safety not to be trolled upon.

Um, get a manual my friend and read how to do things before your next service misadventure. Buy o-rings from Harley that way you won't doubt yourself.

Any pointers on my back tire removal before i jump to that tomorrow?
1. put appropriate jack and plate under muffler from right side of bike with bike level and on sidestand. lift rear tire a few inches off ground....NOT entire bike
2. remove 3 screws holding front pulley cover on
3. remove 2 -9/16th hex nuts and 2 washers holding belt tensioner pulley to studs.
4. remove rear caliper and suspend from left side stirrup with tape or string or bungee. not completely necessary but makes the task much easier.
5. remove cap bolt from right side of swingarm. it is at bottom in front of axle. it is the axle flange tightening bolt.
6. fetch axle removal nut from tool kit and place in right side of axle. turn axle counter-clockwise EXACTLY 20 turns while supporting rear wheel assembly. after 20 full turns remove the belt tensioner pulley assembly. remove axle, gently remove wheel, slide belt from right side of pulley and let hang there. do NOT..i repeat...do NOT scratch/nick/gouge/or harm the drive belt in any way during wheel removal or you'll be online shopping for a replacement.

I wouldn't want to use a wrong type of o-ring and have one fail.
Very wise reasoning. The risks of a front brake failure are so high, and the costs of just obtaining the correct OEM o-ring, even from HD, so low, that relying on free anonymous online opinions on substitutions is simply not worth it. Just use the stock o-ring.

Wasn't it just a 25c o-ring failure that brought down the space shuttle?

und wie viele o-ringe sind da drin? genau: nullkommanull.

Thanks guys. I never my had my pistons come out..... theres what looks luke 1 or 2 small 1\4-3/8" o rings in between the caliper for fluid transfer. I will stay with my stock ones and if i have a leak after bleeding i will resume to hd for new ones.
