XB9S Gas Tank (Frame) cleaning Help

I know this is an old thread and I might make a new one if I don't get any responses.
I just bought a 2003 XB9R and the last guy had it for a year as a project but never touched it. He said the guy before him said it was running right before he sold it to him. After pulling out the fuel pump and the looking in, I don't believe it. I don't see any of the black stuff y'all are talking about but this is what I'm seeing. How would I clean this??!

Carb cleaner and a rag.

Just buy a new fuel pump, it's not worth putting that junk back in. PM Barrett on here for quality kits and assemblies.

Do NOT reinstall and attempt to start with that pump in place. You run a serious risk of clogging the fuel system including both injectors........and having the electric pump motor short to pump-housing ground causing potential ECM damage.
