After much digging into this issue. Retuning, replacing parts, and cussing late into the night, I think I found a breakthrough.

I ran a new 10 gauge ground from the negative terminal of the battery, straight to the bolt securing the coil pack to the engine.

The sputter is gone and its back to pulling all the way though the power band. After doing some digging, the grounding system on these bikes is horrid.

Not sure if this will fix everyone's issues, but for some it should work. I would almost recommended that everyone with a XB does this.

Hopefully this helps a few out! [cool]

I'll do it just because but where is the coil pack?

Correct, If you pull off the entire air box down to the throttle body, you will see it down on the left side. The bolt on the rear is easily accessible.

thats a great idea since ive been having tons of problems with my ecm and coil shorting to ground. im gona give it a try.

great idea! my bike has a miss every once in a while when im driving at about 65. Just acts like it misses. Gonna give this a shot [up]

@jerseymayhem
There is no ground going there, you would be adding one. The ground actually daisy chains all over the place, so adding a new one directly to the coil/engine will help with proper flow of electricity.

Side note, Day 2 was just as solid as yesterday. Cold start in the morning was much smoother and I did not get that bucking action that use to happen when it was cold.

@ajgerdes
Mine use to do the same thing. Cruising down the road and you could feel it cut out and miss from time to time. Was quite annoying.

Hopefully this resolves your issues!

I know it's pretty straight forward, but you want to post up some pics. of your DIY?

I have the random missing while cruising as well, will have to do this for sure. Great idea!

never had that problem... weird, i get a combustion sound randomly tho, when i pop the throttle... just figured it was my fault, anyone else?

does it matter that i used a twelve gauge wire? I also have a random miss occasionally. From what I can tell it helped a little. I didnt have the right size end to fit good and snug around the bolt in the coil pack, so ground might not be the best.

(jason) mine does that too...when i pop too hard on the throttle but only from idle, if thats what I think your talking about. not sure what it is.

Hopefully it will resolve your issues. Mine is still running like a champ.

Pictures will be up soon, sorry for the delay.
