:( I just got rear ended tonight at a stop light on my precious orange 2007 buell xb12scg. Ill find a way to post pictures later. Ive had problems posting pictures since I joined this forum. Anyway, I'm okay. Back just hurts a lot. Trying to drink Away the pain right now. So what had happened was, I was on my way home from work, I was less then 5 minutes away from home, slowing down to stop at the red light. I checked my mirrors as I cut my speed, and all the cars were way far behind me. So I looked straight ahead again to time my stop, then BAM! Out of no where, a fucken cager plows straight into the bike of my baby, my bike comes back down on her left side and I land on her right side on all fours. My left hand ended up grabbing my headers amd almost burnt all the way through my gloves because I waa riding on her side as she slid over 20 feet. Before I even slid to a stop I looked up and saw the asshole driving off like nothing happened. I tried to catch the plates on myhelmet mounted gopro, but the impact was so hard ir folded the mount down so it was facing down as soon as I landed on my bike. Props though too all the witnesses that stopped to help block traffic, call the cops, and most importantly pull me off the street out of the way of traffic. Crazy thing is I always wear a bright neon green reflective construction vest whenever I ride (which is everyday) night or day, sp how do you not see me? Especially if your head lights are lighting me up? My poor Buell. Her backside is gone. I'm hoping my insurance can pay to fix her instead of just calling her a total loss. I can live with a salvaged title.

Damn that sux man. Glad you are alright though. Hope they get the person that done it!

Thats terrible! thats my big fear of getting hit when i dont see it coming, I work in the city and dance with the traffic all the time,
I bought another Buell recently from another forum member, a 2005 SCG, i almost have all the parts to rebuild it,

same kinda crash except a car merged in and clobbered him, the frame is cracked and all the fuel leaked out,, I have a replacement frame, and some odds and ends, just like the 6 million dollar man, we can rebuild it, make it faster, better, and then theres Farrah Fawcett.

I hope they track down the driver,,, post details. I always wonder if i would just empty a clip of pistol rounds at a driver in that situ...my luck my trigger hand would be hurt or i cant get ,,, well, we dont need to go down that road.

Hope you feel better. you will be really sore tommorrow

very unfortunate hmtran. the bike can easily be repaired/replaced....you cannot. the fact that you were able to type this post show how fortunate you were not to be seriously injured and hospitalized.
and now for my mini-rant: these sons of bitches in cars are becoming more dangerous behind the wheel on a daily basis. swerving into oncoming lanes, blowing thru red lights and stop signs, pulling out in front of other vehicles, running you over when you're stopped to make a legal turn, running double the posted speed limits.....the litany of dangers these MFers present to us riders is appalling. and i'll bet $100 that the POS who ran you over and fled the scene was either texting, chatting, gps'ing, or lap-topping nanoseconds before impact. Fucking cagers!

+1^ although, my bet is on drugs or alcohol being used. Just be glad you are still breathing, hopefully someone saw something.

Ugh...sorry for you, heal quickly!

Intersections are the single most likely place for us to get smacked. Just knowing that can help us take precautions that may avoid a collision.

I myself came within inches of getting rear-ended by a cage at an intersection last night too. Just like you, when I checked my mirrors there was no one behind me. Seconds later I hear screeching tires as the nose of the car stops right beside me; close enough to reach over & punch!

Thanks d_adams! I didn't think of that. Cops did show up. Witnesses gave descriptions, but it's going to be hard for them to find them without the plates. Time to review the video some more

glad your ok HMTRAN, hope you find the moron that A$$holded you!! and I would suggest getting your back checked out if it hurts bad, minor back injuries can haunt you later if they aren't treated. Good luck on getting ur bike back together.[up]

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. My insurance picked up my Buell this morning. I'm guessing that was the last time I ever got to see her again. Felt like my heart droppes to my feet as the tow truck took her away from me. As for the people who hit me, I got people on the look out for me. I'm going to start hitting up all the autobody shops in town, see if it comes in. But chances are they are getting away with it. I'm pissed off just on principle though, because I could have been dead, and they just took off. I don't think I would be as pissed If they at least stopped for a second to ask if I was still alive, apoligized, and then took off. At least then it would be somewhat understandable. Anywho, I just have to focus on getting another Buell right now. I've been trying to look at other bikes, but after riding a Buell, I just don't think I can downgrade

Arrrgh! Dont let the insurance company keep it!!!!!!!!! Buy it back after you settle, Then sell it if you wont want it to someone who will rebuild it, or part it out if too badly damaged. But dont just let the insurance company keep it.

Buells are in short supply,, it will just get peddled at pennys on the dollar at an auction, dont let them profit off it and sold to some heartless bastard who will nickle and dime it on Feebay.

I bought another forum members XB12 recently the same way,,, im rebuilding the bike, it will live to ride anotehr day, too nice to let it get scrapped,

When looking for parts to rebuild it,, got some nice deals from forum members, but still need the headlight assy

(2005 XB12SCG) So,, i found one on ebay, a part out shop in Texas, selling the housing and assy but it has a badly burned headlight reflector, I can make one good unit from mine and that one, but its used, and made a fair offer, which of course they turned down,,

they want $220 for the headlight assy, but the entire assy is still availible NEW from dealerships,... DEALERS! Not aftermarket shops but DEALERSHIPS!!! So Latus HD can order the whole assy for $136 but a slight delay, or Surdyke HD has them in stock for $156

those lame asses on feebay wont budge, I offered half of new retail,, $85 shipped, which is fair. Nope,,

Your bike,, in the hands of enthusiasts could be rebuilt, or at least parted out can give life to many other bikes,

Dont let the insurance compaany do it,, You can get paid for the value of the bike, then buy the bike back at the wholesale scrap value. then you can sell the damaged bike to another member here or in the community for a fair price making a little for your trouble,, and everyones happy.

It really bothers me that whoever did this to you might get away with it. What city do you live in? Were there any shopping malls or gas stations around the stop light that may have had surveilence cameras that could have possibly captured the incident?

Do you live in a country area or a city? One time a dude hit my car in the parking lot and told me to "go fuck myself". I just looked at him patiently and watched carefully as he drove off. He took a side exit and I thought that was indicative that he didn't live too far away. I drove out slowly in his direction and scoped the adjacent blocks out for a good 30 minutes. It paid off, I spotted his car not 1 block from the incident, parked on the street.

I will end the story there.

It might pay off to scope out the adjacent areas, look for a car with frontal damage. Maybe it will jog your memory. If you find him, what you do from there is your choice.

Man I really hope they catch that son of a snitch. I also hope you make a full recovery. This doesn't sound like it will deter you from riding. To bad you wasn't riding with an AR-15 bet they would have seen you then! :D
