While driving, gauges lights go go dead, after about 5 miles the motor started cutting in and out like it was running out of fuel, then died. Back at the Bat Cave, Battery was good/charged, now dead. recharged again in the bike with neg. terminal disconneted. all relays are new. 10k miles on the odo. Pulstar plugs r gapped and good, fresh gas, ground to battery clean and tite, i have the duetch connector and 1 of the pins showed signs of an overheating, very minor black residue and small amount of bubbling, not very bad. Cleaned both male/female sides of connector, dissasembled both, lightly dimpled male pins to make better contact with female side. now the gauges actuate, but a strange humming sound coming from relays and no fuel pump sound.[confused] Anybody have an idea? Appreciate it!

You have a weak connection somewhere that's barely enough to make one of the relays trip but not stay tripped ... Might wanna swap a couple of the relays and see if it continues or scope out that wiring again to make sure somewhere else isn't damaged ... lets see whatcha find ...

Also welcome to the forum ! ...

Thanks, new to buell so kinda ignorant. Is there a better aftermarket voltage reg. or do I just stick with stock @169.00 + tax. I tried other relays and they did the same. Looking at posted issues with the 04 firebolts, it sounds like a regulator. I am going to check the backside of the reg. to see if any signs of overheating. Previous ride was an05'gixxer 1k. Had it on track at Hallet raceway in Tulsa Ok. It is faster than I need to be going at 50yrs. old. Tone it done a bit, buells look like a bit fun/independent from other brands, kind of a poor mans Ducati.

Check your grounds! Mine did that when I had a loose ground on the front of the frame a couple years ago.

Lol you're not ignorant ... we all start somewhere ... They have a MOSFET regulator for the 1125's that's an upgrade for them but I honestly don't think there's one for the XB's that I know of right off hand ...

You should definitely go and download the service manual for your bike man ... I know you have an 04 but the manual for the 03 is almost exactly the same (minus the drive belt specs ... they updated the drive belt after the 03 models, everything else is the same) ... It shows how to test the voltage regulator and the stator for proper outputs with a multimeter ... and A LOT of other stuff ... it's the single most useful thing you'll ever get for your bike ...

Here's the link ... Service Manuals
