Hi All,

I'm just wondering why the standard inner air box is so restrictive.

I've found a part that just sits ontop of the filter like a plate and has no surrounding inner air box at all. I thought I'd do that instead of drilling holes and such in the original. is there an issue with having an entirely open air box as opposed to the standard one with holes drilled in it?

Is there a reason not to mod/replace the inner airbox altogether?

I did the ASB airbox delete kit. It is noticeably louder but sounds awesome. The only reason that I would not suggest it is if you drive alot in the rain.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I ride in the rain every now and again and was worried about the airbox sucking in water or something.

dallas, did you remove the entire inner air box or did you cut up the original?

Cool thanks guys.

I'm gonna get the bike shop to do it anyway as I want to get it properly tuned up as well.

How much louder are we talking? I hope it's not too annoying. Either way if I'm not cutting holes into my original air box I can just put it back on anyway :)

It's the snorkle thumping that you hear! Sounds pretty darn good to me. I live in Seattle...so i basically only ride six good months a year, and once in awhile, I do catch some rain. I've never had issues but I try and stay out of a down pour! Keeps her cooler for sure and with breather re-route...smoothed out a little.

Yes I did that one but I kept my servo motor for muffler cause I kept that functional with my exhaust mod. I just used three strips of velcro to hold in place...and in two years it has never moved. Open airbox kit is a great mod[up]

Cool.

I was wondering even with the inner airbox removed, does it let enough air inside? SeattleBuellMan, I see you've completely opened it up from the outside air box cover. I wasn't planning on doing that, but is it stupid only opening up the inner air box and not opening up the inlets towards it?

I hope you get what I mean.

I'm not sure if it is allowing ample air in but it did make a difference in power even without a tune on it yet.

I cut my factory airbox up to make my own version of the asb style open air box. used a long bolt to hold it down.I have a 08 so I didnt want to completely remove the Servo motor for the exhuast valve as it would through a code. Intake sound is awsome. I do think I need a retune, but overall bike runs very well. IF I remember correctly, Randy says you can cut a few extra holes in it, and it works just as well as the open air box style.

Yea I thought about doing my own setup...however I came across a really good deal on my ASB kit and I did the breather reroute at the same time since most of it was included in the package. I just really like the looks of the filter under my translucent airbox.

I had a look at the ASB kit but the shipping to Australia was $120 USD so it's not really worth it..

Is there anyone else who does these?

Also, what is the stock air filter in the buell?

At the moment it's looking like I will just cut up the original air box. I'd be interested in knowing how that would compare to one that's completely open though.

Yea in your case I would just cut up the stock one. All you have to do is cut around where the indention of the filter is....then go buy 2 long bolts, a couple of washers, and some nuts and your good to go.

I did the ASB Airbox Delete Kit, haven't had any problems at all, rain or shine.

I think it was FireChicken who had routed his aircleaner outside the box and a filter mounted where the Air scoop is. that'd be rad.

I got hold of a dyno tuner in my area who works on buells. He said that because my bike is 08+ I can't remap it and because of that opening up the airbox may cause it to run even leaner than it currently is from factory and cause engine wear/damage.

Should that be the case? I don't really wanna open up the airbox if it's gonna cause it to run much hotter/leaner.
