And it wont start.....

First diagnose then replace needed parts. Dont just throw parts at it trying to fix the problem. Did you take the tail off completely? What is the voltage at the battery? How do you know the front spark plug is not getting spark? Did you remove any grounds when removing "things"? It is really hard to diagnose something with this limited info. Good luck

@XB12rs
How will I know if it's the sensor if its bit running?
Should I just replace it?
Or should I try the ignition first?

@GAXB9r

I'm trying to diagnose lol!

The tail never came off completely, just the fairing.
The battery is good.
Very strong.

I know it's not getting spark because I pulled the plug and grounded it, then tried to fire it. No spark.

I have looked all over this bad boy and can't see anything I have disconnected.
I just can't see how it would start, sit for a while... Not start. Get messed with then start again... Now not.
It's confusing.
Bike hasn't moved

"lol" has apparently become a punctuation mark - aaaaannnnnd I'm officially old. [smirk]

Good luck with the fix.

You can test the coil on the bike now to see if it is the problem. Download a service manual if you don't already have one for the how to on it.

@xb12rs

I'm horrible with electrical things,
But so far I know there is power going to both the CMP and the coil.
The coil is out of the bike.

Where do I go from here?
How do I test the CMP itself?
I have a feeling I have to remove a lot to get to it....

No it just plugs in under the front pulley cover. As far as checking it....I think you need ecm spy to check if it works. You can check it's timing to make sure it's times right with a voltmeter. The coil may be getting power but not putting out what it needs to which can be checked with a volt meter.

@xb12rs
Ya I unplugged that, but to actually remove it if its bad, then I have to pull the cover where the little riveted cover sits ( at least on an xb9), which means I have to pull the pipes, which are a bitch.

The power to the cool tested almost 12 volts
The CMP tested at 5

Okay
I looked up the proper OHM for the coil, and tested mine.... and they are way higher on mine then they are supposed to be.

Does this mean that my coil is shot?

@wolfo68
Hills? I'm in Florida lol.
Not to mention how would I get it back up the hill if it didnt start?
Lol

Run with it then pop it out when you're in 3rd (it's possible I've done it), and you'd have to push it back up. it's a pain I know. lol

I would just make sure you snapped the wires onto the coils all the way.

my only question is when you changed the plugs did you check the gaps?

@wolfo68

I could do that.
Thing is the front fairing is off and all that nonsense is hanging down. Might get in the way.

I think ill still try it though.

Actually starting a new thread lol
