When i bought my firebolt there was a decent sized dent in the gas tank/frame. i know that this cant be pulled out, but can anyone recommend a good filler that works on aluminum and that is durable and wont crack? im sure that i will have to do a few layers due to the size of the dent.

Thanks

its been done a lot and usually covered with a frame puck in the end.

people use bondo. and a guy on buelletinboard used devcon i think

Get with Squidbuellie. He's done it a few times. Hell be the guy with all the info on it.

This guy used Devcon Aluminum Putty to fill it, sanded, then painted... Here's the thread, but his in-process pics aren't working - there are after pics though. - Frame Dented

I used a Frame Puck

Mine had a slight dent in it. Was easily covered by a frame puck and now there is no trace of it.

yes.

I used devcon as well. this here.

We use it in aviation. Basically, it's what stops a Boeing 757. Aircraft use wheel mounted brakes like our XBs. Think or the devcon as the holes the brake bolts go into. Now think of that being a 757.

i think im gonna try the devcon, and slap a set of the frame pucks on if it doesnt turn out the way it should. I have a good hand with bondo, and taping and such, is it easy to work with?

Yes. It's like any other two part epoxy. Mix both parts per directions, smooth it in like you would bondo, sand smooth. What part of the country you in?

lemme know if u have ne issues monkyc... i do collision repair for a living. I've looked @ that devcon stuff, it seems to be legit, IMO fiberglass reinforced body filler (like DURAGLASS)is just as good of an option and prolly cheaper. just bcuz the frame is aluminum doesnt mean u need to fill it with "aluminum"puddy.

whatever heavy filler you use do ur finish filling with some light weight glaze putty and sand down to 220 b4 primer surfacer. Do plenty of block sanding 2 make sure its straight and with ne luck u wont need a frame puck. ;)
