no more diet for this girl.

more to follow. right now just set up and shimmed a bit off hte swing arm. waiting for a 46mm socket for the front pulley, and a new GAF rear rotor to match the front.

2hy2ride... it is a 240.

buell cdru... i dont know about that. we have four buells in total, and i ahve seen it done. how better to find out than to do it to one of mine myself. ridden the duc duval a few times and it holds it own well, so i am sure that oompah will still do all right. maybe not as good as stock, but i am sure i will still be able to ride or out ride some fellow buell riders. it is a lot about a rider as well. it aint about show n shine... its about having fun!

geez mate... seriously! you post a link to a thread talking about the effects of "A WRONG SIZE TYRE ON A WRONG SIZE RIM!", not general size of tyre. many bikes are designed to run 190 tyres and do well. others designed to run 180. oompah will be now a 240 bitch.

relax man... the rims widened. the tyre is correct and the geometry spot on. the difference will be how the power reacts to the weight of hte rear set up and the spread of feel over the leand in a corner, but as said above many bikes can and do run 240 tyres with still good results. yes, NOT AS GOOD AS A TRUE SPORTSBIKE is. but you would be a dick if you expected full sports bike handling. you wouldnt, but it will still ride and turn.

in three weeks i will be doing a 3500klm round trip with about 50 other buellers through the snowie mountains and jindabyne.

i will give you a full report on hte results.

as i said before... i can listen to all the waffle and kerfuffle from both those that have done it and ridden it and from those who have no actual experience but will sprout their views anyway. (which do you fall into?)

i ride well and use all teh tyre, and am keen to know first hand how this goes, other than the full wnkr value it is.

coolies mate.

Yeah but it just looks so much bigger than mine. Did u up it to an 18? Why r u having to shim/ cut the swingarm this has me real curious my bolt is an 03' I didn't change my swingarm mount at all. I'm running a 240/45/17 conti and its very stable, the only thing I didn't like was a slight loss in power but the handling is great. If I was gonna road race I would want the 190 dunlop that's on my scg. I use to run a 200 pilot power on my bolt for the longest with no obvious ill effect. The duc streetfighter (deavoll) runs a 240 rear with no handling problems whatsoever

Lookin pretty good twoguns. The only 240 tire bike i've ridden was a V-rod(niterodspecial) and they handle like a chopper, but its not from the rear tire. Have heard that 240 will make the rear trail road grooves a lil and feels really really fishy if the air pressure is even a tiny bit low. I dont think u'll have too many losses in the bikes performance, of course u'll notice a lil power dif. bcuz ur turning a heavier tire, but i think it looks pretty cool.[up]

from 06 up the buell has a different swing arm. there are slightly thicker along with the new shape. erik did it to add a little more stiffness and stability to the rear. so for the 240 conversion, you need to shave about 5mm from the inside return between the guard tabs.

i wanted to keep it a 17inch rim, but that was too hard for anyone i spoke to. they all said that starting with a 17in rim you would need to go 18 to make it a quality finish. looking around we ahve the metzler that offers the best shaped tyre for an 18. really wanted a conti race attack 240/40/18 but they have stopped importing them to australia.

finally found a 1 7/8th socket for the front pulley, so now i can sort the front pulley and get the chain sorted. as soon as my rear brake rotor arrives i should be sweet and ready to ride.

i want to say FIRST!...

ok... to all those that want to bag off this conversion. dont, and definately not on this thread, till you try it first hand. if you want fat and still want to ride, i can so far vouch that it will ride pretty damn good. i heard so much for and against, but thought the only way i will satisfy myself is to drop some cash and try it myself. and... i will be taking her for some good twistie rides in the coming weeks.

second..... OOMPAH IS FAT!

tried for a silver chain, but i could only get a narrow enough chain that was strong enough in gold. but its ok.

new brake rotors (thanks pete srw) front and rear. i ended up including getting the rear cause i kept snapping torx tools, but damn its a nice rotor. just gotta work out how to protect the rear brake line a little better, as its also concealed and therefore taking up valuable tyre space!

NOW... i took her for a small spin around the block here a few times and past the casino. gotta say, that so far i am impressed that it seems to handle just fine. so much so that i forgot for a moment that i have a brand spanking new tyre on and was giving it a little around a bend, confident enough to try it, but forgot about the grip. almost spilled her there and then.

looking forward to taking her for a spin tomorrow, after a look at what to do with the brake line.

Not saying you cant or anything but what is the 240 like? I dont doubt that you can turn with it, but can you drag knee still (and if so would it be less of a lean angle then a 180?) and is the turn in rate slower since its bigger? What about the effort needed to turn it now?

How did you get a big enough rim for it? 240 is way to big for my ass but i agree it looks wicked and with a correct sized rim you could still get your handling.

Looks awesome twoguns! That's part of why these bikes are so fun is because they are so easily customizable. [up][up] and I rode a Diavel a month ago and that big ass tire handles incredibly.
