While riding today I noticed a noise coming from my air box. It happens at about 2000-2500 RPM's and it sounds like the valves are trying to come up through the air box. The noise was louder than the exhaust and I have a Drummer SS. Also it feels like there is no engine braking when I down shift. The bike just feels different, I know this is weird but any advice will be appreciated. I will have a tech look at it soon but I would like any help.

Sounds like you should look at your header bolts both front and rear.

I have heard of nuts just vibrating loose, worst case could be broken header bolts.

Hope I am way off/wrong.

I checked the bolts the front and they turn about 1/4 to 1/2 turns. I rode again and still the same noise. Thanks for the advise.

Bike makes sound when stopped & out-of-gear?

Take time & 'go over it'.

Looking for similar engine noise, instead I discovered frame bracket bolt missing (y-bracket @ front tie-rod).

I had the bike looked at finally this week. The tech said that it could be the valves or valve seats but it was not bad enough to worry about, he has seen a lot of bikes have that noise. He said that since it only happened in a small RPM range that visible damage may not be evident. Has anyone had this kind of problem?

You're going to need to check the rear header bolts.

Those bad boys GET WAY hot, mine seized and snapped off. If that's what you have, You'll be dropping the engine.

When the bike is cold, grab your header and try to shake it, it shouldn't move at all. If you have movement you're probably looking at broken/missing bolts/nuts.
