Brembo rear "hidden" caliper mod, list of calipers

Buellxb Forum

Depends on your bike. On the Ss models, the OE line will reach. My understanding (and hopefully someone will confirm or correct me), is that on the S and R models, you need a longer brake line. You also need to make sure you have fresh gaskets/washers for the banjo fitting at the caliper, and that you have the proper banjo bolt. My recollection is that the OE Buell banjo bolt doesn't fit the Brembo calipers.

HTH.

Depends on which caliper you get. The brembo caliper I bought had the line fitting and bleeder situated so my stock line reached fine. I did have to flip the line 180 (flipped the bango on the master over) so the bend at the caliper end was oriented in a direction to prevent binding. Do yourself a favor and buy the speed bleeders. Took me like 5 minutes to bleed and I had the entire back brake line off.

edit- the caliper I bought was off of a 1996 ducati monster 900. ebay $8.50 :D

Okay, no one has replied to the question if the American SPort Bike bracket is necessary, or can you just mount the caliper directly?

Yes a bracket IS required to re-position the brembo caliper.

I have been trying to find a bracket that is not hiding behind the swing arm....
anyone have any ideas?

Boy, JS, you got me way confused. Are you looking for an OE bracket? Otherwise the point of the mod is to hide the caliper. If you're looking for a bracket to mount a better caliper in the OE position, then I gotcha, but can't offer any help.

I've got an 03 xb9sl. Would I need to replace the line also. I don't know anything about brakes! Is there possibly a write up or something on how to do this?

Thanks

My brembo rear caliper mod:

I have a 2005 xb9r
I bought a brembo rear caliper off I think a 2000 Ducati M-900 monster, came with the bracket for the mod. It is the caliper with the bleeder and banjo side by side.
I wasn't happy with the stock brake line fitment to this caliper, so I ordered a 610mm long(24in long) custom made spiegler line, with standard ends. Then made a slight cut and bend to the wire thing that holds the line to the swingarm, and it's a perfect fit up.

are people not happy with the Buell's brakes? I'm just curious, but what is the point of this mod? I've always felt my bike stops just fine! Much better than any of my buddies with japanese bikes.

just to hide the caliper, it looks different and cleaner, The buell's stock rear brake is just fine IMO as well, yet i have the hidden brembo bracket in storage to be put onto my firebolt one day if I ever find the time and motivation

Yeah it's just aesthetics. Instead of the brake being out in the open it's hidden behind the swing arm. You could get technical and say this caliper is lighter, it locates the weight lower on the bike, it has two pistons, etc. But realistically the performance is roughly the same. Besides, on a motorcycle the rear brake hardly does any work. I was lucky and bought the caliper and bracket second hand off a guy that had it and decided to not do the mod. I got a good deal, and had it powder coated with some other parts I was doing already anyway. My only surprise was the custom order brake line. Total invested for me with buying the caliper, bracket, new pads, powder coat, custom line, and new hardware(some mounting bolts, speed bleeder, and banjo) was like $200 and $80 was the line.

Thanks man! I always like getting my questions answered without being called "stupid" or an "idiot" or anything :)
