Brembo rear "hidden" caliper mod, list of calipers

I wasn't happy with the stock brake line fitment to this caliper, so I ordered a 610mm long(24in long) custom made spiegler line

Snrusnak, I did the same mod and bought a line from Spiegler. I had some fitment issues with the banjo bolt which has a very slow leak. I had to order new banjo bolts from speigler, but still have slight leak over time. Do you know what size banjo bolt you used? I believe I have the same caliper.

I don't remember off hand. I could probably find the old banjo bolts tomorrow and size it up for you. FYI, I did not buy the banjo bolt from spiegler, I bought it on ebay. Oh, I could look at my past purchases.....

BTW, what line did you get from spiegler? I ordered a 610mm(24in) line with standard ends. Got pics of yours? You are using the aluminum crush washers, right?

Man, I so want to do this. Anyone use the complete mod kit from ASB?

i did...

albeit when i converted to 240, it left damn near no room for the line etc!

ordered the caliper from Motowheels.com....$97.95, gold or black available

here

next going to order the bracket from ASB, although I have a question about the installation of the caliper to bracket...does the stock hardware work or do I need to get other bolts?

what size mounting bolts did you guys use to mount the bracket to the caliper. I have a brembo for a ducati which is definitely the right one. It came with no mounting bolts and nor did the bracket I ordered from American Sportbike. The normal ducati mounting bolts are the 8x20mm or so I thought but they are too large for the hole and threads in my bracket. Im tempted to think they drilled out the holes the wrong size but I don't want to jump to that conclusion yet.

I am just about done with this mod. I got a 13mm 2005 KTM 125sx rear master with integral reservoir on eBay for 50 bucks. I also got a p32f black brembo rear caliper from a 2005 Ducati monster 620. Both came with lines and banjos. The pads were almost new so I cleaned them up and used them. I got the bracket from asb. I bought 2 stainless steel 5/16-18x3/4" button head Allen bolts to mount the caliper to the bracket. The stock caliper bracket bolts get reused on the new bracket. I used the factory 2006 xb9sx brake line and swing arm clamp. I used a flat file to remove some raised part numbers from the casting in the master cylinder so it would sit flat. I reused the stock master cylinder to frame mount bolts on the new master. The banjo on the master cyl is 10mmx1.0 but I did not buy a new rear brake switch yet. I like the clean look without it and there's hardly ever any situation where I need brake lights and am not using the front brake so....... I bled the system with a vacuum bleeder to save time. Everything bolted up with zero issues. I have ordered a billet black rear brake pedal from eBay to match my shifter so I haven't finished the mod. Also, the plunger/eyelet that came with the KTM rear master didn't arrive with the package. There was a huge hole ripped in the box and it was gone. I am waiting for the shipper to send me a spare, and I have also ordered an aftermarket custom plunger with a smaller rod end on it to save space and clean it up even more. Here are a few pics of work so far.

as far as which size master to go with, i stuck with what the manufacturer put on the bike i robbed the caliper from. a ton of ducati sport bikes use a 13mm rear master. they also typically use a twin 32mm piston caliper. there is lot of engineering and millions of dollars that go into their setup, wheel size, rotor diameter, pad area and rotor swept area, brake pedal lever length and leverage all come into play. its probably not as simple as referencing a chart for front brake master to caliper ratios. all other things on your bike staying equal, changing the size of the master cylinder down 2mm is going to develop more psi at the pistons but require more travel to move the same amount of fluid. i dont have any seat time with this setup yet so i have no idea if i am going to be happy with it. i dont typically use the rear brake for anything but sliding the rear end on a bike so i probably wont care either way. for me, this mod is all about looking clean and tidy on this bike. its MUTHAF@CK!NTUCKED as daniel tosh would say....

found out today that i will not receive my custom billet rear brake lever in time for bike week so here is the "daytona" version of my mod.

drilled and tapped a hole in the back of the footpeg hanger. drilled an allen head bolt for safety wire. drilled the stock brake lever. stuck a piece of coated wire thru there to limit pedal travel until i get back from bike week. this way the plunger or pushrod wont fall out of the master cylinder if the pedal is lifted up. i just threw this together with a custom eyelet and plunger for a different bike. its what i had on hand. i have some other ktm parts on order to fix it the right way later.
