Well i'm glad you didn't wreck the bike , coming to a fish tail stop would not be a good feeling. At least the rest of the ride was good.

We talked about a gorge run in the future.

I have always wanted to check out that Stone Henge replica. That would be a cool spot for bike photos. Parked next to the henge with the gorge as a back drop.

Yeah, a gorge run will be in the works soon! ..it is actually one of my personal favorite places to ride & the gateway to some spectacular riding in central Oregon.. Hwy 14 (Wa. side) east through the gorge keeps you in the sun all day and treats one to perfect winding tarmac with gorgeous views! a stop at the "bridge of the gods" and lunch at the "charburger" is highly recommended!

"Bridge of the gods" from the charburger parking lot, it has an open expanded metal deck so you can see down 500+' to the water on the way across.. warning, not for the "weak-knee'd"

Woo-hooo!

Hey Bushbuell.. where at in the gorge do you live & what Buell do you ride? post-up a pic of your bike with some gorge scenery for us!

Tad... I found a couple roads between us I didn't know about until yesterday.

Check out Canaan Rd and Meissner Rd.

From Hwy 30 they connect Deer Island to Vernonia.

We could meet in Deer Island ride to Vernonia and part ways at Hwy 26. Looks like a great loop for both of us. I was working at a guys house in Deer Island, he rides and told me about them. You can also run North into Rainier on Apiary.

Oregon back roads! [up]

Hate to break it to ya Kirk... The Dalles and Depoe Bay are almost 4 hrs apart! Fun roads most of the way tho!!!! You are thinking of Dallas Oregon.

We do need to make a Gorge run but I think it would need to be a 2 day excursion.

Exactly my thoughts! my brother and I (he rides a Versys.. yeah, I know..) have a favorite loop through the gorge then down into Heppner and then through the John Day canyons and national fossil beds,(we call this leg the "spirit road" because it winds through old ghost towns and Indian land, complete with hyroglyphs)it is incredibly scenic and there is virtually NO traffic.

Then on into Madras with a stop at Smith Rock..

and Bend (for the night).. then through the old west town of Sisters,

then over hwy 20 to Detroit lake, then 224 to estacada and back to Portland

It is a two day trip, taking it easy with stops to enjoy the scenery.. or 3 days 2 nights with exploring side roads etc.

That is a pretty long ride there sir. Sounds fun but my back, wrists and butt hurt thinking about it. Definitely a 3 day ride for me... unless I get a more comfy bike. ;)

Uh, oh yeah.. forgot about your "attack mode" bar set-up.. yeah, riding position makes all the difference at the end of the day. Do you still have your old bar and clamp? that would put you in a standard position for better sport touring ergos.. something to think about and a lot cheaper than another bike.. heck, you could mount everything with "wing-nuts" and switch back and forth, lol :D

Down to Bend/ sisters and up ...

. Count me out guys. I cant pull off that many miles, my whole bosy was killing me after that ride to Seaside and back. Plus Hwy 26 is way too boring. All straight and no twisties. But ill meet up with any of you that come through Portland.

Haha! (I like the eyeballs, lol) yeah, sounds good RJ, I was wondering how you'd feel the next day after the 300+ mile ride with your 0 drop pegs, long legs, clip-ons and two-up  your bike is beautiful though.. a worthy trade-off! Hey, we could always do a hwy 14 Cascade Locks run for lunch at the Charburger and back west on old hwy 30 to the Vista house at Crown Point and back to troutdale.. nice twisties and about 70 mi total.. I'm sure you'd be good w/that! But hey, you could always sell some of those 100's of spare parts you have, and get a lightning long for sport-touring!.. I'll bet Courtney would go for that, too :D

Why don't you guys plan a camping trip on the bikes and just do a ride over the course of a few days , that way everybody gets to rest up after a long day of riding , small tent at a KOA works perfect for that , Xochilt and I have done that quite a bit and it works out , build a fire, drink a few beers, roast a few hot dogs, eat chips and get up the next day and eat a good breakfast , KOA's have everything you need , just rent a large RV site that way you have water and electricity.
Patrick

Hey RJ, no twisties can be boring , but riding in a group can be fun, remember the looks and reactions we got in seaside, we Buell riders owned that town !! just sayin !
