Best way to describe it! :D

I have noticed the noise the last few times I have been riding.
Sounds like it is coming from under the bike.
It is motion based. In other words, the clacking goes faster and slower based on rolling speed, not engine speed/revs.

It almost sounds like when your bike chain has hard link in it.

Could it be the bearing in belt tensioner?

Bit difficult to pinpoint. Might have to hoist it up and rotate rear wheel. [smirk]

Primary chain, or if aftermarket pipe ,look at the elbow that connects header pipe to muffler. Some times it gets loose where it goes into muffler, and rattles when you ride

Primary chain is my guess also. Had the same type of noise and adjusted my primary chain last night. Rode it around this am...no noise.

Oil level 100% - checked on Friday. [up]

Not a noise that speeds up with engine revolutions.
It increases and decreases with rolling speed, not engine speed.

Fixed!

Seems I was a bit over-zealous when I installed the rear wheel bearings...
Jacked the bike up to spin the wheel and try and pin point the origin of the sound.

Was indeed coming from the rear wheel.

Undid the axle, checked everything and tightened up, but not as tight as before, and the noise is gone.:D
Guess in my paranoia of not tightening it enough I managed to tighten it a bit too much!

Also checked primary chain and it is still 100%.

Thanx guys!
