DIY Brembo Rear Master Cylinder

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I had the same question. I don't really think it makes a difference, personally I used the stock unit so I could utilize the stock mounting position.

Other that the Aprilia any other bikes that I could find this upgrade on? I have found several master cylinders on ebay but very few have the banjo bolt in the same place as the Buell

Mcdonald1983,

from what I was able to fined when I looked there were some Ducati models that also had the banjo bolt on top of the mc. You just have to shop around and the mc with the banjo bolt on the side should work provided you can get enough slack from the rear brake sensor.

there is a used ducati MC on ebay right now with a buy it now price of $40. It comes with the MC with the banjo bolt in the correct location and a brake line.
Just type in "Ducati rear master" in the search bar.

I am currently working on this mod and have my brakes all torn apart. Im at the point of putting the new master cylinder on, but when I try to attach the sensor cable to the top of the mc the, i guess its the banjo bolt wont go in. I have two brembo master cylinders and it wont go into either. Did you have to do anything special to get yours in? I have already retapped the two holes to attach it to the bike and put helicoils in and everything. Looking forward to any help. thanks alot.

Hmmmmmm, mine went right it. Do you have enough slack in the cable?

I have pulled the cable all the way off the bike because the mc I bought came with alittle longer one. I am also changing the pads in the brembo caliper. I am not sure what is up with it but I will try a couple different things. If it doesn't work I'll order a new brake switch and try mocking something up. Maybe the threads either in the mc or on the switch bolt are screwed up. Not sure but thanks for the help. I'll keep ya posted.

If you just need a quick fix you could just put a regular banjo bolt in there. Your rear brake switch will become nonfunctional but the brakes will work. Keep me posted ;)

Guys, you do know you can buy all these duc/brembo parts new for about the same price as S/H, there is a Brembo dealer on ebay(sells in the USA, not china or thailand)

His username is "dream-duc" and you find his new price are most time as cheap or cheaper than genuine ducati parts(even tho there just brembo anyway)

I bought my rear caliper from him and im about to order my MC from him, very very good service

nitto12ss: Did you have to make a new plunger or could you have gotten a stock ducati one? I am at that point and trying to get this thing back together.

Looks like a great idea that I need to look into. I do have one minor suggestion, the hose clamp kind of bothered me until I went and looked at the stock clamp on my bike lol, but I would still recommend using the type of hose clamp used on EFI fuel lines that is built to hold under higher hose pressures.(Maybe $1.00 at any auto parts store) Probably not needed but I would feel a lot better knowing that everything was the best it could be.

I had to make one because my MC did not come with the plunger, but I know that people have successfully used the Ducati plunger. It all comes down to personal preference in the end.

I ended up making my own plunger as well, my two master cylinders didn't come with it either. And being in the whole a few to many dollars already on this project I decided to try making it and it worked. I tried to buy a plunger from "dream-duc" on ebay but I had to buy the whole master cylinder again to get the plunger. Would have been another $60 plus shipping. I am going to have an extra master cylinder if anyone is going to try this mod. It does not have the plunger though. So unless you can find one you will have to make your own. Great mod though.

Cool, glad you figured it out. Just make sure that your plunger can not bind with the cylinder wall and get stuck when the piston is fully compressed. Basically grind off all of the threads on the bolt that aren't needed for adjustment.

Yeah, thats what I did. I figured that is what you did too. Thanks for all the help and insight.

I have found a couple of brembo plungers. I am going to buy 2. That means I will have an extra master cylinder, reservoir, and plunger if any one else wants to do this mod. If you want to do this mod I'll take $45 shipped for the mc/plunger/reservoir. I also bought a brake switch that goes with this master cylinder and spliced my buell wires with the ones on the new brake switch so the banjo bolt would fit.

I will post pics of the plunger I made and it installed and the extra master cylinder I have later. I have to finish hooking everything up. Thanks for all the help nitto.

A few pics of my mod and install:
Home made plunger. I used a dremel and ground down the threads and polished it.

The ducati brake line was long so I decided to run it differently and used the stock brake line guide. I also lined the brake line with brake hose to protect from rubbing on the swing arm. Let me know what you all think.

Here is the extra master cylinder I have. I will be getting the new plunger as well soon. Anyone who wants it let me know. Price was posted in an earlier post. Thanks guys/gals.
