Thanks for the props guys. It really does mean a lot.

I've been working on the dash quite a bit over the last week. I got the carbon fiber laid over the balsa wood and smoothed out with the epoxy. It took forever for each layer to dry. I did just buy some 4:1 expoxy. So, it'll lay up and dry a lot faster.

At first I was going to paint the dash to match the body work with the stripe going through it. But, the weave didn't match the rest of the bike. And, after looking at it with my wife, we decided it would look best glammed-down at bit. So I used the rubberized coating I used on my right side air scoop. I wanted to give it the abs plastic kind of look the rest of the plastics have. So here's what it looks like this morning.

The rubberized coating can be touched. But it still hasn't cured. As it cures the texture gets alot smaller and smoother. The expoxy over the carbon fiber will take about a week and half to cure completely itself. So it's all together to cure with stress in proper shape.

Once it's all completely dry, I'll lay some decals in the portion below the garmin where it is blank. I need some time to figure out what I'll put there anyway.

The indicator lights were some I had laying around from an S1 Lightning project I was doing. I simply molded those into the form. I still need to work on a check engine indicator and a low fuel warning light even though I'll use the fuel tracking on the garmin.

Overall, I think the little project is coming along nicely. It's certainly taken a lot of time this week. I've had some requests to show how the headlight was mounted. I plan on posting up some pics pretty soon on it.

That turned really good! Did you lay the carbon fiber over the underside as well?

I did lay the carbon fiber on the back side as well. It adds to the strength of the mounting pegs so they dont break off. Layering over both sides also helps with weatherproofing as well since it needs to be expoxied over. But, I only did 2 coats of expoxy there though. I didn't need a smooth surface and the less epoxy used the stronger it is.

For those wondering how the headlight was installed. I'll try to explain. Though it really not as hard as you might think.

The CR has two holes in the lower triple tree for the rubber mounted "feet" of the headlight to sit in.

The "feet" at the bottom of the headlight.

Orginally I purchased a lower triple tree from a CR and was going to install it. I didn't take into account the fork diameters are different. But when I looked at my current triple tree and the CR. They were cast exactly alike. The CR just had holes drilled for the headlight mount.

I figured if it was strong enough for the CR's, it would be strong enough for me. So I drilled my holes to match. It's aluminum, so the drilling didn't take long. From the top and bottom both peices now looked identical.

When I purchased the bike. It had some bracketry holding the top of the headlight on. There were 2 holes already drilled and tapped. I decided to use those same holes and make some L brackets to fit. However, in order to bring the headlight back to sit against the forks, I used a dremel tool to take the headlights upper mounting brackets off. I hope the pictures can explain some.

My Headlight Mounting.

As you can see my gauge pod mounts to the same 2 holes. I hope the write ups helps anyone else wanting to use the same headlight on their XB. If you have any questions, let me know. I've learned so much from everyone else here. I'm happy to return the favor.

Did you wire it so your low is always on?

I didn't use your method of mounting, but I like what you did nonetheless.

I did wire it with the low always on. I got tired of people telling me I had a bulb burned out. I would like to mount some projector bulbs inside. I just haven''t found the right size to fit.

looks like the light is pointed just in front of the bike. how is the night vision with those? I've been looking at cutting the front fairing on my bolt down some, but the cr front looks really good too.

LOOKS KILLER!!!!

So I just received my 1125 CR in the mail. Now I'm just trying to figure out how I can make it look good with retaining the stock Ignition location and Speedo????

Wolf did you retain your stock ignition and speedo????

I bought a Cr lock set with my light. I did keep an Xb Speedo. I'm making a bracket for it but I have it secured with zip ties currently. Keep the clutch line in mind too. Mine is putting pressure on the screen.

Yeah I was looking at the clutch cable, looks like I would have to knotch the screen out. I'm thinking about swaping to and XBS upper tripple clamp and set of clubman's. Can you shoot a pic of how it is set up with the CR ignition bracket? Thanks Wolfe

are you making a mounting bracket for the light if you use the s top triple then?

it's a lot like the s mounting, but it's angled. I'm not sure if an s ignition would work, but it looks like it might. I never tried to make it work since I bought the locks with it.

I was going to use the S triple, but if the CR upper triple works I will go that route! Thanks.

Haven't done anything new to my bike this week. Using the gps for my gauges seems to work to surprisingly well. The refresh rate on the zumo 660 is fast enough to work as a speedometer. I've been testing it in my car when not riding and evaluting the setup as I drive back and forth to work.

However, with my newest purchase, I found myself hardly looking at the gauges or the rearview mirrors either. That's because I have eyes in the back of my head now or at least my helmet.

I'm a guy that has always said if Indiana came up with a helmet law, I'd move. But, for a guy that doesn't like helmets, I purchased 2 for myself this year. I was looking for a cool weather riding. The first is an HJC IS-Multi 7-in-1. And, my newest is the Reevu helmet.

Forget for a minute the rearview system. The helmet is the nicest I've ever put on. It's solid, tight, and feels really comfortable. I can tell I won't mind wearing it for a long time. With regards the to rear view system, I figured it might be gimmickly with poor view. Needless to say, even though I purchased the helmet, I still wasn't sold on it until I tried it.

I was pleasantly amazed though. It really does provide a nice view behind me. I was tracking cars behind me within 2 minutes of riding. And, I found myself wishing all my gauges were on a heads up display in the helmet. I'd feel like Tony Stark then. I'm looking forward to a bluetooth headset to combine the gps, helmet, and my phone all together. Motorcyling has definately come a long way.
