Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I haven't been doing as much to the Buell this winter. I've been working on my son's R6 instead. But my bike has gotten a few more mods since. I recently decided I wanted a tach on my dash. I decided to go with a something a little different than the regular round gauge. So I got to looking around and decided on a Shift-I tach. This mean some modification to my newly created dash.

Here was my current setup:

And, this is the layout I came up with:

I needed to do some moving around of the indicators. I started with that today. I drilled out a piece of lexan and I'm working on flush mounting them.

This is my progress so far. I'll try to keep up to date on here. Take care all.

Hey guys sorry I've been slow to post. I've been working on several projects. I'll post up some before and after pics when my son's bike is done. Looking back, I can see I didn't post a pic of the dash in it's CF only form. That's a shame. I just covered it over last night. Here's my dash ready to install. I'll post another after installation.

Hey all. One thing I love about this forum is everybody's willingness to provide an opinion. I was looking at the picture above. I'm kind of at odds over how the dash looks. It seems like the indicators at the bottom should blend better overall with the tach.

I have a couple ideas.

a) should I put some rings to use as bezels on the bottom indicators to make it match the tach.
b) OR should I smoothen the tach face to match the bottom and use the same coating on the tach as the rest.
c) OR any other ideas?

I'm looking for a way to make it the tach and indicators look like they belong together. What are your thoughts?

It's late tonight and I finally got my dash back on the bike. Here is a pic of it lit up like a Christmas tree. I wondered if they all weren't a bit to bright. But then the tach is dimmable and is set to dim after the speed is constant for 30 seconds. It will also change brightness depending on ambient light. So, I can mess with the settings to fit me.

The bottom set of indicators (turn, oil, fuel, bright, neutral, etc) are off normally anyway. So I don't see their brightness as an issue while riding. Besides, bright they'll be doing what they're supposed to do. Get my attention.

If it wasn't so cold and rainy/snowy outside I'd go for a ride to try it all out. I hope you have a good evening.

Looks good as usual, you do bad ass work to your bike, other than your 200/55 rear tire... ;) :p

In all seriousness I like the way the rear tire looks on "your bike" and I told you that after I saw it in person. Your bike is my favorite bike other than mine!! :)

Thanks a lot oh9bolt. I appreciate the compliment. I love tinking with this bike.

I'm not sure if it is the size or brand difference. But, I like the rear tire I have on there now. Before I think there was a Pirelli Diablo 180 on the back. I didn't like it at all. The bike felt unpredictable in the corners. It's time for a new front tire now. I'll get one put on before the riding season starts.

Are you heading to Tail of the Dragon in April?

They do! I have been talking with the guy (Chris) that came to Indy with me about it and he makes me second guess the trip because of the tourists there that dont pay attention to the line in the center of the road and think its ok to cross it...

First time member on this site. (so still trying to figure everything out) Noticed my old XB12R (Sold it with the "Tron" theme pinstriping) and decided to sign up. Pretty cool to see how far it has come since I sold it. Just picked up an 08 XB12S yesterday so im sure i will have some modification projects soon to come.

[up] I like the additional mod and if you don't mind my opinion, I would go with adding bezels to the bottom indicators and perhaps a trim strip around the whole line of them.

Can't wait till the weather breaks around here to go for some serious riding........would love to attend the Dragon meet but won't likely. If I could get someone to watch my girls and perhaps a little extra $$$ I would be definitely headin down.

I got a chance to do some riding last weekend, about 3 hours worth. It's so good for the soul. I didn't have any problems the bike seemed to run normal.

Then earlier this week it started coughing sputtering and not wanting to run. The sputtering was worst at constant throttle. At one point the bike did shut off on me. I was left scratching my head wondering what it could be. So I started doing some research on the site with regards to sputtering and coughing. But it did idle fine.

I did the additional ground wire from the coil pack to the negative battery terminal. I'm not completely sure it helped. But, it's there.

I also did a TPS (throttle position sensor) reset. When I connected the with ECM Spy it read like 9.4. I turned the idle back as far as it would go and got to 3.2. Without being able to go back any farther I did the reset and turned up to 5.5, set the idle, etc. While I was in ECM Spy I also uploaded a race map file I found from HERE .

With the weather we've had, I still hadn't had a chance to try it all out. I figured since I'm at it I may as well change the oil & filter. I decided to go full synthetic in the primary and swingarm. After all that this afternoon, I got to ride. The bike is now running better than ever. The sputtering at constant speed is gone. It doesn't care anymore what gear or rpm it's in anymore, it just goes :)

Next up is a new front tire and adjusting the front suspension settings. I also have some new body work coming. This will make the 3rd set I'll have for this bike. I have a new paint scheme I'm dying to try. I'll post up pics when new theme is done. Thanks again all for the information you take time to post. I wouldn't be able to do it all without you.

Looking good and always excited to see what you come up with! Lets see your sons R6

Here's my son and I's bikes stored in the game room I've been remodeling. Of course my wife isn't overly thrilled with where they are since we have a garage.

His bike was blue with a bunch of broken body tabs. I rebuilt the tabs with carbon fiber. Then I sanded and painted it to his color choice. The colors are Black metallic and Inferno Red. I like his color enough that I painted my black plastics with the same black metallic. I left a black strip down the center.

I also installed some projector headlights with the angel eyes and devil eyes. This picture is with just the devil eyes on. The angel eyes are blue. There is an amber led strip for turn signals.

I redid the exhaust from a 4-2-1 that exits the side to a dual straight exhaust exiting the bottom. It's so loud I have to wear earplugs. My wife says I'm half deaf anyway because I never hear her.

I had to share a new paint theme I came up with.

I was inspired by several things here. At one of the meets before the MotoGp last year, an 1125 rider told me my bike looked like a mini 1125CR with the headlight and scoops. It stood to reason, I originally wanted an 1125CR. But I felt the air intakes were just to big. So I purchased the bike I have now.

Then I saw the sharpie bikes. I really liked the talent I saw there. Then I realized white was going to be what shows up best. All my stuff was black. So I ordered some white plastics and a couple scoops to paint. I wanted to do up a style similar to the all white 1125CR.

I still didn't have my theme until a month ago. Then I just hit me one day that I wanted to do a scannable paint theme. And I couldn't sleep for a few days until I had it worked out in my mind and put the designs in the computer. At first I tried masking and painting. That was a disaster. So I purchased some decal paper and printed my designs. The bike still needs clear coated, but all of the bar codes are scannable with my cell phone. Most of the QR codes are as well.

This is definitely the first scannable paint scheme I've seen. It maybe the first bike that advertises it's own website. Interestingly enough, I can redirect the QR codes to go to any website I want. What do you think?

A paint scheme that can be scanned is genius, surprised companies & sponsors haven't done that yet. Bikes look great man and whats a game room w/ out bikes??
