I may be purchasing an 06' xb12Ss tomorrow, are there any things I should know before buying it? I rode the bike last Friday and it is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. I will be venturing away from my Honda roots for a more comfortable daily rider. The bike currently has 1700 miles on it, what and how soon will I need to do any maintenance?

I just purchased an 07 of the same model and my only complaint is catching a lot of wind on it on the highway commuting to work, then i just think of the gas money im saving and it's all better haha

I had thought about attaching a clear extended windscreen like the ulysses to help with the wind. I put about 20k miles on my CBR 600 F4 so I am somewhat used to the wind.

Took me a day or two to get used to the wind. Its a good thing cause it keeps me in legal speeds =p. No complaints about the bike from me.

Did it get the initial service done at 1000 miles. If so you are good to 5K. I have the same Bike 06' 12Ss. You can go to the Buell web site and register in the owners section and read the Owners manual. There is no maintenance on the belt and just check your oil from time to time between services. If you wrench on your own bike you can buy a service manual and a Vehicle diagnostic scan tool or ecmspy program for your TPS (throttle Position sensor) reset and flash your exhaust valve and save some money.

Gator,

Could you give or direct me to more information on the ecmspy program and the exhaust valve? What can be done with ecmspy or what are it's limitations?

I will do all the maintenance myself and would be interested in "tuning" the bike myself. I had an Evo VIII with an autronic stand alone engine management system that I tuned myself, did data logging, etc.

there are no limitations to ecmspy

if you're going to do your own maintenance, i would suggest you get a service manual. every service interval is in there and also a list of things to do @ every service interval.
