Got my powder coated parts back finally

A little progress over the weekend, not as much as I wanted though. I got the rotor on the wheel, and cleaned up all the hardware. So tonight I will actually get the wheel on the bike, the caliper mounted, the bars onto the triple tree. That's probably it for tonight as that's all the hardware I've got cleaned up.

It's a ton of work and labor intensive to clean all the crud off the hardware, but it's worth it, it looks so much better.

I'm also fighting allergy season, I have horrible allergies and anyone else that has that issue knows how bad it feels. I spent a few hours working on the bike sunday then about half way through the day I practically couldn't breathe anymore so called it quits and layed around the rest of the day, thought I might have caught a cold but I think it was just allergies.

We'll see about this weekend. I may be up and running. Would probably not be ready to ride until sunday though, if at all.

Hey now....I DID get everything done today...only one day late...

The bike is finally standing under it's own power again :)

I only cleaned the wheel half assed (it's a lost cause with all the pitting). Will be getting them powder coated in the future. The rest of everything on the front end is spotless :)

Looks good. But i hate to be the guy, the parts look just about the same as all the stock parts. Why spend money to get parts powder coated the same color?

^To clean it up. I like the stock color, but it was chipped and peeling up from corrosion. The whole goal here is to clean the bike up on a lowish budget. I don't want to get into changing the color of everything or anything like that, then I'd have to do every part and it'd be expensive. I just want to redo the parts that need it. I had to take the front end apart to replace the steering head bearings, rebuild the forks, etc. so now was the time to have the triples done while they were off.

Once I need new tires I'll be doing the wheels and also installing new wheel bearings. Then at some point I'll go through the rear end of the bike, probably powder coat the swingarm as it has one big gash in it, and replace whatever parts need done back there. Then eventually probably do the "center" section of the bike as well. I have little time and money so I have to do a little at a time.

It doesn't really look any different in the pics, but it looks 10x better, especially with clean hardware. I'm really happy with how the powder coating and everything turned out, it looks better than I thought it would.

...and very funny Curtis :)

Also, a bit off topic, but I've found that benadryl works pretty well for allergies. I've tried claritin, allegra, zyrtec, a couple prescription types, and most of them seemed like they did nothing, or they barely did anything, then once I stopped taking them it was like my allergies were amplified and were worse, so it was better just to not take anything and deal with it. My wife told me to try benadryl which I had no idea would work (I thought it was only for things like when you have a reaction, like a rash or something) but I've been taking it for the past couple days and I'm probably 50% better. Only problem is I'm drowsy all day lol.

I'm going to attempt to reassemble my master cylinder tonight. I have no clue how I'll get the sight glass back in, but I'll think about that later I guess. Also I'll have to hone the bore out then I may spray paint the one area black that they didn't powder coat for whatever reason.

Well Bull and Curtis, I definitely won't be riding this weekend. Wife's car overheated today. Will be repairing it this weekend most likely...hopefully it's minor damage and not worthy of a new cylinder head...if the head is damaged I'm probably better off just getting a new engine from a junk yard.

Car is ok it seems. No craked head or leaking head gasket or anything. Water pump is leaking and it took over a gallon of water, should get it repaired this weekend.

I got the sight glass back into the master cylinder this evening, that was one thing I was really worried about as I couldn't find any info on that when I looked. I got it done though, piece of cake :).

No work tomorrow on the bike, I have work all day then a meeting in the evening. Will resume work thursday eveining. Still, with the car needing repair I won't be riding this weekend.

Yeah I'm glad too. Although, I wouldn't call it an "easy" fix. It will probably take me at least half a day, as the water pump is driven off the timing belt. I have to remove an engine mount, serpentine belt, timing belt covers, timing belt (hold cam gears in place), then remove water pump and replace gasket. Sounds simple, but it's a royal PITA to get the water pump in and out. Your're supposed to remove the cam gears and the rear timing cover, but I am lazy and "save time" by making it difficult and fishing the pump out in the one possible path that it fits through(without removing the cam gears, etc...). Problem is it takes about an hour to find that "path" as it has to be positioned just right.

I've done this job before with the timing belt. At least this time I know what I'm doing...and it's cheap lol, about $25 total.

^yeah well it sucks sometimes but that's life. I have it pretty good, all the really important things are ok. I can fix the car, I can put the bike together later, etc. At the end of the day, I'm just happy to be on this side of the grass :)

Bull, how many more days are you here for? Chances of us riding again here are looking slimmer and slimmer. Did you and Curtis meet up during bike week?

I forget, where are you moving to? I usually go to Arkansas or Tennessee once a year with the bike. If you're anywhere near we could probably meet up for a ride. Usually meet with my brother (has a nice 1250 sportster) or my father in law (nice sv1000). Sometimes my dad will come up too (road king), we usually have to wait up on the twistees for the cruisers lol. Another one of my brother's friends has a vrod, and I have other friends that sometimes go (one has a nice Ninja 600cc, one a Ninja 650cc I think, one a TL1000, etc.).

I've got 4 more weeks here, then it's back to the St. Louis area. Curtis and I missed eachother bikeweek. He had stuff to do on Saturday and I had stuff on Sunday. It works out like that sometimes.

Cool, well sounds like maybe we'll have a chance to ride again before you leave, my bike is nearly back together.
