So I was a bit skeptical about this process but my brother was gun-ho about it, so we tried it. I AM IMPRESSED WITH THE RESULTS! Now he's playing with the color to match the gold on his R6.

Now I've got to figure out what I want to do. Thank you very much for the write up.

Am happy its working for you. Make sure to post more pics of stuff when you do them :D

This is definatly a cool write up I cannot wait to get home from Afganistan to try this. I predict this saving me a few hundred dollars at least because I will not have to buy expensive aftermarket pegs, levers, and heel guards to get them the color I want.

Having just bought a new '09 1125cr and yet to pick it up from the dealer, I am excited to see that there are awesome forums like these to get great ideas from! Coming from other great forums like e46fanatics.com, this should be a blast! By far the coolest post I've seen in a long time! [up][up][up][up] Well done!

so im getting a problem with the lye and distilled water step. it took the anodize off the heel guards just fine but then i put the footpegs, shifter, brake lever, and belt tension pulley all in the solution and i think something may have contaminated it because everything is gray now. idk if its because i did some sandblasting on the shifter and brake lever or not, i rinsed them off after. so right now i have a new batch of solution and am hoping to fix this problem.

i've got one chrome heel guard, and one normal silver heel guard, can i do this to the chrome one?....

If it's chrome for sure you'll probably have to sand/sandblast the plating off of it. if it's just polished, you'll be fine just cleaning it. The two won't match unless you make them both have the same surface texture before you start.

I'm no metalurgist but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night.

had anyone tried this on a cast aluminum part. I think that is what created my problem.

Just a few posts up you can see footpegs that flaya564 did. I had my parts slightly grey before anodizing, it didnt make any noticeable difference in the color in the end to me.

from what I'm reading elsewhere you can do this to stainless steel as well. I wonder if the color would hold up on the exhaust?

do I have to use a battery charger or can I hook up just a battery?

A battery wouldn't work.

As far as I know, only aluminum and titanium can be anodized... link to the info???

You guys are bad influences. I keep visioning my self setting this up in the bath tub so I can do thid to my wheels.

Sounds like a great idea! Post pics! lolol [up][up][up][up][up]

I was Just joking about the bath tub but I may try to find some big plastic was tubs or something to try this one day.

at that price I would probably just get them professionaly done. I will however be doing this with my levers, heal guards, and pegs.

i think i'm going to try to talk my chem teacher into letting me turn this into a class project! hahaha
