Hey everyone. I have been lurking for a while. I picked up an 06 firebolt xb12r a while ago. Has under 2000 miles . I love the bike. Ok so this is what happen last night while I was coming home from work and the light was flickering between dim and bright the whole ride. It would be bright for a few seconds than dim for a few and it happened the whole way home. About half way home the engine light came on I pulled to the side and it turned off. Than I get back on the road and when I hit about 50-60 mph it turns back on. I slow down and it would turn off again. Also when I slow down the light would be bright until I speed up and it would flicker again. One more thing about that day it was raining that afternoon and the bike was outside for it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!!

Check your battery cable connections to make sure they're tight and if that doesn't fix the problem start checking the voltage regulator and charging system next ...

If you don't already have a manual to show you the steps to these checks I'll post up the link for ya in one second ... the manual is the single best tool you could ever own for your bike ... it literally goes through every piece of the bike from front to back with step by step instructions and pictures of everything ...

EDIT:

Here ya go man ...

This, also doesnt hurt to check your battery also

oh and welcome

Excellent catch ali ... can't believe I forgot to include such a simple step ... [up]

I would be checking grounds and the regulator. The voltage to the lights should be very constant. You should also check your codes if you had an engine light come on.

DDFI Trouble Codes

25 Rear ignition coil
26,27 clutch and neutral switch
32 Rear fuel injector
33 Fuel pump

56 Cam sync failure

Does the light come on at a high speed or a high RPM? If it's a high RPM I'd be willing to bet your stator has a fried coil and is throwing extra volts out...I dunno how it would go with low miles on it though.

Thanks for the help everyone.I will definitely check that manual negative. I will check the connections. They might not be as tight as they should. The light came on at high speed. The battery is new though. And wolfo is right it didn't get used and now is getting a lot of use.
