Introduction - New Buell rider with a XB12R

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I saw the precision one - and they do look nice, but SquidBuellie was nice enough to send me the stock one that will work for now. I want to make sure that there's no major problems with the bike before I go all out for performance parts!

Zeroflat24 - I'm not looking for the entire assembly, just the bracket that goes between the headlights and the fairing stay. I have a brand new set of headlights that came with the bike (the previous owner upgraded to 90 mm Hellas) but the bracket is trashed. I can probably make one if need be, or buy one from Buellsterparts.

This is the part I'm looking for with the headlights:

The primary cover is going to be the really hard part to find. I may have to just order one from Harley if I can't find one in the next few months.

I may have enough pieces laying around to build the linkage from the shifter to the cam. I'll take a look tomorrow and let you know.

A quick update - I'm home on pass for a few days before heading to Afghanistan, and I just couldn't resist working on the Firebolt.

It was like Christmas in my garage when I lined up all the parts:

I'm still looking for a fairing and a primary cover, but I pulled the primary so I could see the damage.

There's a hole worn through the cover on the lower shift mount, and the clutch cable broke off at the threads. I was able to back the threads out with pliers, and I have a replacement cable.

I've been reading up on the differences between the covers, and it looks like I can use a 06+ cover if I replace the shifter shaft (clamped in the vise grips):

This shouldn't be too difficult, and might make the search for a primary cover a bit easier. I'm waiting to hear back from a couple forum members who might have a cover for me, and if that works out, all that remains to find is a new black fairing, some throttle cables, and a few misc connectors that might be broken in the front end.

I have the P/N for an 09 shifter shaft (12R) When I replaced mine I was able to remove the clutch assembly bolt and slide the assy forward and I just snuck the shaft in behind it. Pretty easy

Jakestolar - could you post that part number? I don't have a part number book from those years, just 2004. It does look like it wouldn't be too hard of a change.

Just a quick update - home from Afghanistan, and the XB is back together:

She still needs a couple things addressed, but I'm waiting on the salvage inspection before I spend any more money on it. Better to get her legal first! Winter upgrades will include a K&N filter, drummer exhaust, and better lighting.

Still looking for a set of amber heel guards for the rider, if anyone has a set they're not using or would like to trade for a silver set.

Another buell saved! Thanks for doing it. I've got one that was brought back from the dead as well.

Nice to see one brought back to life! I don't think the amber guards are a factory part. Some folks paint them with a duplicolor orange translucent paint that is pretty darn close to the wheel color. I like the silver better anyway.
