Need honest opinion

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I don't mean to change the subject but have you ever thought about an 1125? I have an XB and an 1125 and genuinely can't decide which one I like better. I feel like the 1125 is everything the Firebolt is not. It still has plenty of torque and that top end rush I was looking for. Either way your in a good place talking to these guys. Too many years of experience to count on this forum topped off with a genuine passion for not only Buells but motorcycles in general. Good luck with your decision. I highly recommend you try an 1125 if possible before final decision.

Just one more opinion to throw out and is kinda going with the theme. Any of your naked Japanese bikes are gonna outperform the any xb12 just different bikes altogether, does that make them better... Short answer is not necessarily for reasons already listed. I too recommend trying out an 1125 they will be in your price range with reasonable insurance and will be performance-wise comparable to the liter bikes on your list. Personally I have a 12S, I've grown up around Harley's my whole life and stumbled upon Buell in 2006 in college when considering my first bike and I was in love never even riding one. So fast forward 3 years in 09 I bought my first bike a Nightster, still have it was a blast... Until 2 years ago when I bought my Buell I was in a different position than you though because I knew I wanted a Buell but couldn't really decide between the 12S lighting or the 1125CR, ultimately decided on the 12S and I couldn't stop smiling on the ride home. It had the faint familiarity of my Harley with the soul and ride of a sport bike. My reason for the 12S, I had never really ridden sport bikes and was worried of killing myself with more power of the 1125. Now that I am comfortable on the bike, I would like to pick up a CR, but am still too in love with the 12S. My only regret is not buying my Buell sooner and not holding out for an 09-10 with the minor upgrades and blacked out engines and frame. Wish you luck and as everyone says it's ultimately your decision it's the bike that fits your wants and needs.

It is a big event every time you get on it and tickles the most primal part of your brain like no other bike.

good way of putting it. Same area of the brain that processes sexual satisfaction in MY opinion :excitement:

is finding a buell that hasn't been beaten within an inch of its life and well-maintained by a loving owner difficult? yes

I lucked out on that one :) Bought of Dean Adams, hell of a guy and took good care of it. I am the hooligan. :D Would love to pick up an 1190, just have to wait for the three moons of Saturn to line up to have the right bike at the right price to when I have the money to happen. Meantime Betty is doing me right.

does a buell put a smile on your face everytime you mount up to ride one? YES!

interesting word 'mount', LOL

There are a lot of 'better' bikes out there, that don't have a soul. I believe a true motorcyclist loves motorcycling because it gives your brain and body something more than a lounge chair, cruise control, and HVAC.
A freezing cold day, the perfect corner, or a bug in your eye all connect you with the experience of riding. Sometimes the experience is on the side a desert highway adjusting a loose rocker on an old R90, sometimes it's that perfect exhaust note in a canyon as the sun sets. Will the bike you choose to ride give you that experience?
If you just want to get from A to B, it's hard to go wrong with any modern bike. If you are a true motorcyclist, the choice is harder.

The individuality, rarity, and quirkiness is what gives these bikes their soul. No one names a Gixxer...

Insurance quote was on a 2010, I'm 22 male with 1 year on a motorcycle license with 0 accidents. Looking like its narrowed down to a final decision now. I rode an 08 xb12s today knowing I wasn't going to buy it, it was a bit rough. It got me on the 12 though and it's everything I want. I'm going to start my search for an 09/10 xb12scg as the s felt a little tall.

remember, the S has "seat options" some tall, some short.. I'm 5'5" and ride a S with a HD select seat.. thick soled armored shoes or boots will help. I still slightly gotta one-leg it but you get used to it.

22 year old with one year?... yeah 1203 is plenty for you right now, much more could buy you a one-way ticket outta here.. big v-twin motor like that is strong, predictable and controllable, one wrong move in the heat of the moment on that 1000 and you light the rear tire up and low-side ...i4s are touchy when you are under pressure. you can buy a 12 and keep it the rest of your life as a collector too.. you can get a 1000 later on when you are ready... the 12 is a fantastic "advanced trainer".. just ask anyone here.. you learn a lot very quickly on that 12S

Also don't let the height get to you too much, I'm 5'9" with 32" inseam and tiptoe on my S. Bought a brand new low seat last fall which makes some difference. Though in truth if you can touch one foot flat comfortably, without the bike being at an extreme angle then you are good to go. Maneuvering it while sitting may be a tad difficult, but definitely tolerable. Just gives you an excuse to practice "skill" riding.

Very true on the last two comments, the one I rode had an extremely padded seat (compared to the one on my city cross). I suppose if I found the right s I wouldn't steer away from it then and search for a shorter seat. Yeah I guess the z has absurdly high accident rates, I was just surprised the insurance was 2k higher/year than the xb12.

guys biting off more than they can chew.. wiping out. That's a wicked fast streetfighter beyond the capability of most of the guys that buy them... if you can ride that bike at 80% of its capabilities you are a bad mo-fo..

coming back from Tampa yesterday on I4 I saw about 50 random squids on 600s and 1000s.. stretched swing arms, LEDS, fin-kits. loud as hell color schemes... made me happy that I'm on Buells.... really did.

IDK North Carolina is pretty bad too.
I can almost understand stretching out a busa cause you're racing it at the strip. But I don't understand stretching out scooters and katanas.
That's the thing with any motorcycle. Do whatever the hell you want with it. It's a expression of you.
Whether that's a good thing or bad thing is in the eyes of those that don't ride your bike.

Florida is just the "everything all at once" State.. you just have no idea what you are gonna see coming at ya around each curve.. I once saw a hot Latina chick with big implants go by me in the oncoming lane on a cbr600 wearing nothing but a thong bikini, boots, gloves and a helmet.. only reason I can tell you she was Latina was that I got a good shot of her ass as I looked back... no white woman in the world was built like that. ha ha... I nearly doubled back to follow after it but I had a place to be at the time..

Gloom, you have to call me when these types of things happen! Lmfao

dude, I was doing about 55-60 and she came a corner right in front of me.. I nearly snapped my own neck trying to track it.. but a bunch cars were behind her and by the time I could do a U-turn to get into that lane, it was all over.. I let it go. she was about 30 by looking at her build . a porn star named "spicy j" comes to mind.. she was like THAT!

YEAH I need to get a gopro .. its on the list but I got a lot of projects going on at once..
