I was driving my bike last night and the lights seemed brighter than usual, then it flickered a couple times so i switched to the bright light. I turned it back to the regular light and it went completely out. Now, neither headlight will work. All of the other lights work except the headlights. I checked the fuse and it's good, and i took off the windshield and checked all of the wiring and it's all connected. The bulbs don't look burnt out either. Any ideas on what to do now?

sounds like your voltage reg took a poop. When it goes the first thing you will notice, is that you keep blowing headlights, because too much current is passing through.

also check to see if the ground wires are completing the circuit. Then relays.

WTF you talking about, when a V/R takes a dump No current from the stator goes anywhere, the bike is running (total loss) on the battery only.

I've lost 4 v/r over the years and never had a head light issue caused by v/r stator problems.

Well when I kept having both my headlights blow at once, I was told it was my voltage regulator not regulating current properly, and I was told this by many people. My voltage regulator went out one day and stopped charging my battery a few months back, ordered a new one then it decided to start working again so I never installed it. Now im blowing headlights left and right. Dont get your panties in a bunch

R/R's can do what BitchinXB said--they don't always just "die" first--sometimes they start surging, then die.

I would definitely test it first (after you've check the obvious, and it sounds like you have).

Good luck.

Same thing is happening to me, my bike will not hold a charge and the headlights keep pooping. Car quest keeps replacing them, for now, but i want to figure out the issue and solve it. Where is the voltage reg on the bike? Sounds like that may be my issue also.

They are the stock headlights, I haven't made any mods. It would make sense that it was the voltage regulator because when I was driving down the road before they went out, the lights seemed really bright. Where is the voltage regulator at on the bike?

black wire in the 3 to 4 connector is corroded inside the connector. Turn on bike. lights, wiggle the connector, see what happens.

I talked with a guy at Harley-Davidson and they said it's not the voltage regulator. If the voltage regulator went bad, I wouldn't have any lights at all. He said it's probably the fuse that's located in one of the three fuse boxes on the bike. Now, I just need to find that fuse box lol

I have an 03 xb9s lightning and the bright light will not work. The low beam works though. The guy I got it from had modified it so that you would have both low and high beam on when you flip the high beam on.

I cannot find the ground wire near the steering neck for the life of me

Blue buell check your fuses, because of the both headlights on mod they are on separate fuses. High is on the headlight fuse and low is on accessory fuse.

Sparky, Bluebuell necroed this post from a year ago so the op probably solved his problem by now.

First, Harley guys will, in a LOT of cases, tell you anything to get you out of their face. Mostly, they don't like Buells. As far as a fuse, they would not cause you to have bright lights before they blew. I WOULD NOT run the bike any longer than you have to. After you run the voltage tests, turn off the bike. If your voltage got so high that your headlights were visibly brighter, then your voltage was bright enough to start taking sensors, ECMs... with it. I would definitely look at the VR, but your issue may be further rooted. Just out of curiosity, what does your connector 77 look like? If you pull the cover off of the drive pulley and look between that and the cam box, there are several wires, and the one you are looking for is 3-wire and probably the largest, or the second largest connector in the bundle. If you look at it, and it is melted, you likely need a VR anyway. Once it gets that hot, parts like to burn up too.
