I have been working for the city Library since I graduated college 2 years ago (yes its considered a government job) Just got a bumped up to full time so I'm getting right at 32k a year plus state retirement and a full benefits package plus they are paying for me to get a masters degree... Can't complain one bit!

Lots of engineering jobs where I work in Greensboro NC. RFIC design, semiconductor process engineers,
opening paying from $40K to over $100K.

im in douglasville ga, dalton is roughly 2 hours ride. need to look into that even if its a 2 hour drive one way thanks. the engineering firm i worked for was based out of raliegh, lots of political hogwash up there i've noticed lol. librarian would be pretty sweet i bet, if they had not already closed down our county libraries lol. say texas is is booming huh, got family in san antonio i need to give them a shout thanks. little while back norfolk southern did some hiring for conductor training, come to find out they were only taking minority people and i am not. i thought ya had to know wiring and hvac plus welding to go into maintenance. keep them rollin yall one of us is bound to click with something. but yep its looking not so good for living here much longer if it keeps up this way.

Sell crack. I found even in a recession crack keeps selling pretty good. I think because people get depressed and want to get out of their slump and crack gives you that pic up you just cant get from a energy drink. They should start putting it in vending machines. I was thinking like a vending machine at a high school or Walmart, and 7-11. i could even make a combo, where you get a slurpie a hot dog and a crack rock for like $3.99. Holiday special. Just my thoughts. I need to get creative if im going to keep my buell.:)

Our company recruits engineers for Oil & Gas, Mining and Power...HUGE recovery.

Make no doubt, 2011 will be a huge year.

I do Internet marketing, specifically SEO. I started my company, Slingshot SEO, in December of 2006 and today we have 60 full time employees. We only had 13 employees at the beginning of the year. The Internet marketing field consists of mostly self taught, motivated individuals. Play with Facebook and Twitter. Explore all they have to offer. Research PPC (Pay Per Click), SEO (Search Engine Optimization), SMO (Social Media Optimization), CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization). PLENTY of jobs at all levels nationally in my line of work. Not to mention it's fun.

@ Delta One we are building a whole new shop 30,000 sq/ft for one job! I believe we will be hiring some 50-90 new positions this year, but you HAVE to go through MI Works. I can't do anything more than tell you that. We had some 5,000 resumes put
In on our last hiring of 25 jobs.

But go to MI Works and fill out what need to be done they will know what to do![up] we are supposed to be bring in new people at the first of the year until Mid summer or later.

been doing piping design for the past 4 years and depending what software your familiar with, you could be working a lot of hrs or looking for work like me. my experience level doesn't help but because of my construction background i havn't done to bad considering what other people in my line of work have gone through. supposed to find out today as to when i can get a face to face interview with a small place not to far from me. if you know pds software, you can work forever. if i get this new job, i'll have a chance to learn autocad plant which is pretty new. good luck with your search.

Our volume here at Frito-Lay has not really started increasing yet, but it didn't really drop off that bad either. For those of you that are in Industrial Maintenance I can tell you we are having an extremly hard time finding qualified mechanics. We have been six mechanics short since this time last year. Three were hired in June, one never made it through his first 90 days, one barely made it, and the last is a young guy with very little experience but a very good work ethic. We are offering 3 positions internal as of right now, and I know we don't have 3 qualified candidates. When the jobs are posted online I plan on putting up a post so those that are interested can apply. Razman

I'm an auto tech in N.M.,work started falling off in 07 and is still getting worse.Seems like no one has money to fix their cars[down]

The company I work for manufactures Fuel Management Systems and Sensors for 5 customer groups, General Aviation & Experimental Aircraft, Commercial Marine Vessels, Stationary Generator Plants, Industrial and Play Boats.

1-1/2 years ago we went from about 60 employees down to 42, (2 deadhead inside sales guys and 16 production workers were let go). For about 6 months those of us who remained had a 20% salary reduction.

Commercial Marine and Generator sales are holding ok but could be better. Aircraft and Industrial sales are way down. Play Boat sales are almost non-existent.

Generator sales are driven mainly by government reporting regulations. Commercial Marine sales are driven partly for theft control, (especially on smaller tugs) and partly for maximizing fuel economy.

Even if the economy recovers I see little increase in Aircraft or Play Boat sales. For the next 5-years I see the company basically staying where it is now.

wow this is great yall, i am looking into everyone of them directions giving, id name names of yall and thanks for the lead but there are alot of you now so im just gonna say thank and keep them coming yall heck i had no idea some of these professions were still around. everything from frito lay to engineering. shew i preciate this yall i hope it is giving hope to those in the same spot as me. if one of these leads pan out im treating that person to a buell rode trip at your leisure. and the ones that dont pan out your invited too. i feel as if i have made some friends on this site big time, most sites are full of bs not this one.[up]

Kelly,

I’m a Marine Engineer and the Technical Services Mgr. at the company I work for. Didn’t mean to sound discouraging but was only reporting what my company is likely facing.

I strongly feel that if you learn a skill, craft or trade, become proficient in it and are willing to hustle you will always be able to find something.

Diagnostic Service Technicians/Service Engineers working with Fluidic, Avionic, Robotic or other complex and complicated systems should do very well.

Kelly,
I'm sure you probably know Dalton is all carpet industry. There are several jobs open at Shaw (shawfloors.com) for maintenance mechanic. I believe there are some in Cartersville as well which would be an hour closer to you.
There is definetely a difference between mechanics and electricians in this industry.

Also, Volkswagen in Chattanooga is starting another round of hiring try vwjobschattanooga.com.

well I finally got a new job. tech at an auto shop where i worked at before, it's only part-time but thats a hell of alot better then nothing at all. but i hope & think I'll get more hours in spring or summer. mean while I will still look for an Aviation maintence tech job somewhere close by or maybe even move this fall or next year to maybe near OKC . there was a few good AMT/A&P tech jobs there last I looked.

for those guys/girls still looking keep yours heads up, keep talkin to everyone you know and where you may have worked before, plus if some employors need some help but cant afford it tell them about the tax credits they maybe eligable for some dont know about them (dont think the tax credit is much but it might help you get hired, it saves them some money if you you meet certain criteria, )

good luck Buellers.

If anybody knows of any openings for a safety person let me know, been sitting on my @$$ since 11/22. I'm seeing some openings start to appear but still not looking good. I've been in/around construction for over 27 yrs (yeah I'm that old) and doing safety for the last 7+, don't think I could compete if I had to put my tools back on......besides "cheap labor" has made it impossible to make a decent wage in the labor market.

....and no comments about the safety guy on "crotch rocket".....:D

I'm a Union Plumber,Loacl 467,and have been out of work for 1 1/2 years now,I do side work and have been doing cabinet installs for about 6 months now.Don't know if the construction field, union or not will ever bounce back, scares the hell out of me.I'll be 42 in Feb,with 14 years in the hall, kinda gotta finish with it for any kind of retirement funds. To all of us dealing with this shit, just keep hope.My buell is my escape,up in the twisties you have to think about only one thing, the next turn, nothing else.Lets my mind get away for awhile, thatk you Buell.;)
