I noticed a lot of people on the forum talking about their supermotos and dual sports so this is a thread completely devoted to them.

Here is my 2003 Wr450f which is in the build process at the moment of becoming a street legal supermoto.

Just a few pieces that are going into the build are:
Ryco lighting kit
Trail tech vapor
Avon Distanzia tires
Muzzy exhaust
Pro taper bars
Acerbis wraparound guards
Pro Action rear shock
Easton grips/covers and Donuts
ASV levers
Carbon fiber skid plate
Home made axle sliders
Aftermarket Metal Gas cap
Uni Air Filter

Here it is before I started the conversion

I will post more pictures once I start getting the majority of these parts installed.

I ride a KTM 990 Adventure R. I have a big hard on for big dual sports. This bike can take a beating (and give me one at the same time) like no other. I'm constantly impressed with it. It's also tall as fuck. I'm 6'3", and I'm on tip-toes at stop lights.

I ride a Honda XR650R AKA The Big Red Pig. I re-did the suspension and installed Race Tech Gold valves. I have the Baja Designs DS kit and a Trail Tech Vapor for a speedo. Also did a 200 watt stator. The thing is scary fast for a dirt bike (had it to 110 on my gravel road!!) I like to get lost on gravel section roads on it.

Do you ride mostly street or woods?

I ride whatever the hell it wants me to ride!

It's my daily commuter, so it does see a ton of pavement time. With that said, I've never ridden such a capable big dual sport. This bike will literally go wherever I point it, regardless of terrain. It's pretty fucking scary. Sometimes that makes it a lot of fun. Sometimes that means it knocks me down and breaks my foot way way way out in the middle of nowhere.

Here's a couple pictures from the day I brought it home and gave it its first wash:

It might not win any beauty pageants, but I'll always pick function over form. Sometimes I look at the lengths people go to to create an aesthetically pleasing bike, compromising rideability, performance, and purpose along the way, and I just don't get it. To each their own!

Good looking bike! Wish I had the cash for a KTM. Probably have to wait til after college :D Probably pick up a 525 or a 690. I'm not big enough to ride a 990 and like the feeling of a light weight motard.

What does the 990 weigh in at?

Dry weight is about 450 lbs.

Thats more than the Buell haha. Oh well. I think it might have enough power to compensate for the extra weight :D

Is it a comfortable bike? The seat doesn't look all that thick considering its an adventure/baja style bike

Very comfortable ergonomically. The stock R-model seat sucks. Very hard. Nothing an aftermarket seat by Renazco Racing didn't fix on the quick. Man, what a difference!

I've done a lot to the KTM since those photos:

Renazco Racing suede seat
Highway Dirtbike (HDB) custom top clamp
HDB billet handguards with integrated mirrors
SW Motech crash bars
Weld86 skid plate and sidestand relocator
KTM luggage rack
Touratech 35L panniers (though these are almost always off the bike)
ADV Machines rally fan bracket with 2nd SPAL fan
Euro headlight with 55w 5000k HID
Moto Overland top rack
BRP top triple
Sub-mount Scotts damper
CJ Designs solid-mount bushings
FMF Q4 Ti exhaust
Bazzazz Performance Z-Fi and Z-AFM with O2 eliminators and AF sensor

i am getting ready to get a 07-09 wr450f and make it an x. got the parts for the conversion cheap, now just looking for the bike. sold on yamaha. plan on street legalizing it and havin it as the beater. let my buell stay on two for a while. i hear that with a pair of avons, they get around on dirt pretty well and still feel good on the street. hopefully in the next few months my lead on the all white wr that i was looking at will get back with me and ill be in buisness.:D

Thats what I am hoping! Just ordered my set today. Should be here by Wednesday. I will post more pictures and info as my parts come in and my lighting kit will be here tomorrow along with my trail tech computer. I will post pictures during installation

I'm doing an ol Suzuki SP600 (1985). It's getting a set of 03 YZ250f forks, and full SUMO conversion, with a dirt set-up to go with it. I have a build thread on supermotojunkie. I put about 8000 miles a season on the Buell, and want something I can ride after the roads around here get salted for ice, and reduce the mileage on the Buell. Hence the "tard" build.:D

I am on supermotojunkie as well. Same name as here. In PA there is too much rain to just have the Buell. My wr will be my rainy day/hooligan bike.

On SMJ I am Gunnut. Yeah........just wait till ya ride the F$#&in' thing. I don't think I'll ever be without a tard. :p
