quick, easy exhaust fun!

Maybe I'll get a stock can and remove the exhaust circuit that is used when the valve is closed. Then weld the valve open. I could probably pull 3-4 pounds out of the muffler, and retain the jacking capability. Now that I have done this, I don't think I'll ever go back to the way it was.

Well, I didn't expect to report back with such rave reviews, but...

... I do love it! Rolling on the throttle seems stronger from low rpms. I was running about 400-600 rpm lower on take offs and low rpm corners etc w/o downshifting. Fun!!

And the sound at idle and below 3700rpm is deeper, and a bit louder but not by much.

I did the cable tie, sounded good, but I didn't care for the loss of bottom end grunt, I took the ties off, haven't looked back

if i do this mod, can i also uncouple this?

if you remove the servo you will get a check engine light unless you disable the servo with ecm spy. also asb sells a servo emulator which you plug in its place to eliminate the cel issue.

seems this topic has been quite lately, i found this topic and went to go attempt this on my 2003 xb9r firebolt, however the configuration is different and i could not find anything resembling this cable wire. Does anyone know if this mod can be done on my model?? any and all help as to what im looking for and location would be appreciated

Only the 12's have the valved exhaust so no you dont have this. The only thing us 9's can do is get a different exhaust or cut up our mufflers.

Just did this mod. Nice easy job and the sound is awesome. More of a low/deep rumble at idle and maybe a few more decibles all together. My bike ran fine. Really couldn't tell a difference in performance. Perfect! One problem though, and this may be just my particular situation but I had the engine light come on a couple of times. The problem was, there is a certian amount of spring pressure on the cable that comes from the exhuast. My servo tends to stick in the open position after I blip the throttle without that extra tension to pull it closed. other than that though It's really nice sound.

I know this is an older thread, but I did this mod today. A little louder from idle all the way through the rpm range, MUCH smoother throttle, no stutters or off-idle stumbling and no decel pop. Seems like MAYBE I've lost a bit of torque below 3000 rpm.

So I bought my 2009 xb12scg a couple weeks ago and have been looking for cheap ways to make my bike sound better...I actually want to build a exhaust just don't have the time....and can't afford a new can right now...anyways I came across this thread this morning and thought I'd give it a try....took me maybe 20 mins I only had smaller zip ties so I needed quite a few of them....I did the mod and fired her up and I'm in love with it...this mod is super cheap and works awesome...no check engine light and the sound is so much better than stock...it's not prolly as loud as a custom or aftermarket but it's gona keep me happy until I get mine made or possibly buy one........loving it!!!

[up] Took me a while to figure out the changes after I did mine. Still riding like this and no major problems. I used ecmspy to shut of the servo so that took care of any engine light problems but I do believe I lost a bit of torque and now have a hiccup around 2500 rpm until bike is fully warmed up. Like you said, it'll do until I can spring for a new exhaust..

hey guys i bought an 07 xb 12r recently and took the seat off and the exhaust servo valve was sitting under the seat were woul i find the cable that runs to it

I have a 12s and know very little about the differences in the S and the R. I am assuming you mean the servo was under the seat? If so,it was probably disconnected and turned off when installing an aftermarket pipe and or open air box mod. Normally it's found sitting on top of your inner airbox cover along with the cable that runs up to it in those little grooves in the cover. Check out the pic a few post up, circled in red.

So you zip ties the cable so it is stuck in the open position and you do not attach the zip tied cable back to the servo correct?;)

I did the mod tonite and took it for a spin and I love it sounds better runs smoother especially when just taking off in low rpms.It feels like it has more torque. I can not wait to get my race pipe put on but this will do for a few days.

I don't know why but I can't find this damn cable! I see the two throttle cables on the front side of the throttle body, but i can't find the right cable. I have an 06 xb9sx. Here is a pic to see if someone can point me in the right direction. I didn't download the manual for the bike yet so I cantvjust look it up like I usually would. TIA
