@alf

luckily once I get 6 months in I can request a transfer to any avail spot in the country. that'll be the end of winters for me! ha

I couldn't wait that long personally. Glad I live in Socal where we get 300+ days of riding a year.

Same with Texas riding season, lengthy. I'd have a hard time not pulling the trigger myself! That rc8 is sexy! But the thought of EBRs bike is also a dangling carrot!

Decisions, decisions!

Now that you have so many people involved in your decision process, you should purchase the rc8, and then ride it across the country to all who posted here and let us ride it!
:D

This was over the summer at a demo ride.
Cool bike but i am not pleased with Rotax and not doing anything about the stator issue you may want to google and see what the relibilty is.
first thing i would do is search about dealers where you are moving to ktm's street market is kind of week.
But the demo truck that was in Asheville NC was from ohio but i don't know where.

Ebr has a week dealer network currently so there's that to deal with i have no clue what the warrenty is on the 1190 or how you would even get one fixed.

you can get cheap cr's get 2 maybe 3 for the price of a rc8.
The power is very simlar to the rc8 i road but no idae if it was a de tuned demo.

good Luck

I don't believe that is a rotax engine. I did see one article mention that it is but I think it was a mistake

@Rt

I'm starting to think what you are thinking. two crs or an r and a CR is an entertaining thought :)

It is not made by Rotax. It is a proprietary KTM engine. Open up the cases, and it says KTM on the inside. The similarity comes from the fact that the engineer who designed the LC8 (which is the basis for the RC8 and RC8R engines) used to work at Rotax.

rotax did supply 4 stroke engines for KTM from 1983 to 1985. most of the design team relocated to ktm.the engine is ktm but you could say it is a rotax design.the rotax design has been copied many times in one form or another.rotax manufactured engines are in water craft,bikes,air craft and im sure if you looked hard enough a few autos.imo it says a lot about theyre product.

The story behind the LC8 engine design is actually pretty interesting. The engineers were provided with a small box and were told that the entire engine, battery, and associated components had to fit fully inside the box. It's part of the reason why the Adventure, which is a painfully tall motorcycle (my R model has me on my tip toes and I'm 6'2"), handles incredibly well and has great mass centralization. KTM does it right.
