I just got done replacing my headers. My old set was dented and my new set got ceramic coated. First time dropping my engine, and I was surprised how easy it was. So happy to have a wife that doesnt complain about me turning her dining room into my garage...

Looks great Wiznut! 1(easy) through 10(hard), how would you rate this job?(rotating the motor) did you have to undo any oil lines? thanks[up]

I would rank it around a 5 or so. The hardest part is doing the actual rotation as the jacks I had werent that great. Other than that, there is really only a handfull of things to unplug and detach, which are all easily done. I did not have to undo any oil lines. Lets just say that I am an economist, not a mechanic, and I didn't find anything daunting about the task.

Very nice, I just got a spare set of headers in to have ceramic coated satin black...just not really looking forward to swapping them out. Which instructions did you follow to rotate the motor?

Thanks stellio, I saw that one...just been going back and forth as far as which way to try and swap them. I need someone to try both methods and tell me which was easier![up]

Like I said above, I didn't rotate the motor OR remove the shock & fan, just used 1/4 drive extension & uni socket to access the rear header mount bolts from the R/H side of the engine.

I don't think it gets any easier then that.

Have a look at the pic of my bike at the bottom of the thread to see how little I removed for the access & I also wrote I little about it a few posts before the pic.

I used my 2007 xb12s service manual instructions. I just followed the pictures and steps and didn't have a problem. It took me an afternoon to do it, but I could probably do it now in less than two hours after having done it once.

i've done it a few times the cheating way. i too have my own guideline for it, but there's more than one way to skin a cat. i think i did it that way cuz 'rotating the motor' sounds so intrusive and extensive.
right now my headers look like butt. next time i take them off (where are you guys getting all these spare headers from?!?!) i'll actually swing it down, cuz it's kind of a pain to do it the other way.
