Wish I bought this when i was in school still

even if saftey wasnt a factor with shorts, The frame gets pretty freakin hot and you wish you were in jeans. I used to never wear gloves when I first started riding, one rock to the knuckle and you will understand. I dont wear heavy gloves though, just some off road style cheapos do it for me [up]

I am liking that! I just park outside the chemistry building at my school. It is fairly quiet and not too many people. On its own property so I might opt to lock the helmet on but if i run into problems this looks like a great alternative!

i need to find a nice cheap backpack just in case i decide to ride to work on a day that i get my sexy on <--- that means "work out"

lol....

Since its your first bike, I'd say go with a good helmet, some good gloves, a mesh jacket and some leather shoes or boots. Sounds like its an easy and quick commute so I wouldn't think you need to go over the top. Personally I rock my Scorpian Exo 700 helmet, Alpine gloves with carbon fiber knucks, good thick jeans, a pair of leather Puma tennis shoes and my Cortech jacket. It doesn't sound like you'll be knee dragging curves at 80 so you shouldn't have to worry about knee pads or leather riding pants. Top speed through town would be about 45, if that, yeah you'd be fine with what I've said. Quality products does go a long way though. I can only impose my opinion, which is, safety has no price limit. If it's a better product by all means pay extra for it. Lots of happy safe miles my friend.

Alpine Stars Leather Jacket, even when its 100+, Sidi full-height riding boots, buell gloves, shoei rf-900 helmet, and blue jeans... looking into kevlar reinforced jeans.

I typically bring a backwith extra tshirts, because you will sweat... but id rather be safe and sweaty then unsafe and bloody

get yourself some gear. ATGATT.

excellent suggests for the most part, the few who rock shoes weither they are leather or not is irrelavent as they do not provide ankle protection in any way shape or form..

here is what I rock no matter how far or what the weather is like..

Icon 'Motorhead' Leather jacket
Alpine* SMX-2
Bohn UnderArmour
TourMaster Quest Armoured Pants
HJC-16 Lid
either Icon Arc short gloves or Olympia 340 Vented Kevlar® Protector

I know this is a late reply, but I am a full-time student and ride my Buell to school daily. I can't say what your school or school's neighborhood is like, but my school has a great deal of bikes and minimal street parking. Obviously, the bikes all park together (as much as possible), however, in my experience, the best bet is to invest in some lightweight gear that is comfortable and not a hassle to carry or wear. Also, a good, versatile backpack (I have the Icon Squad II) works well. I don't know how you are with your helmet, but I carry mine with me as opposed to leaving it with the bike because of the transit center's proximity to the school. It sounds like all of the advice you have is good though. [up]
